Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Mr Finnson taught me all through High School. Very patient teacher... he had to be to deal with some of us. Super nice person. One of my favourite teachers And after graduating he treated me like an adult whenever I saw him which I appreciated. I also was in the same grade as his daughter throughout high school so my condolences to all of his family. RIP Mr F - Posted by: Greg Zaborosky (Former student) on: Nov 06, 2019

  • Gus was a very special person We had the pleasure of meeting him & his wife over the summer as Gus was helping with some ideas for my cottage. He was brilliant and his wife was a sweetheart. Very kind hearted people We are extremely sad to hear of his passing. We’ll never forget him. Our condolences go out to his family and the love of his life... his wife Candy & Cliff - Posted by: Candy & Cliff (Friend) on: Oct 16, 2019

  • Gus was either my volleyball or basketball coach back in high school-perhaps it was both at different times. My memory of his coaching style is this: while he always wanted us to do well, it was more important for each of us to feel that we had something to offer and were part of the team. I don't think any member of the team was ever sidelined on the bench for any extended period of time. He found a place for everyone who wanted to participate. Years later I would run into Gus at various places (the Kinsmen booth at Islendingadagurinn; remodeling my mom's kitchen-Gus built all the cabinets to fit perfectly in her less than square old house in Hnausa), and he would still make me feel valued. He was just a really nice man. The world is poorer for his passing. My sympathies to his family. - Posted by: Margo Matwychuk (past student) on: Oct 16, 2019
