BETTY (ELIZABETH) WADIEN
October 17, 1932 - October 9, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother on Wednesday, October 9, at the Maples Personal Care Home (Winnipeg), at the age of 86 years young.
Betty will lovingly remembered by her children, Betty-Anne Yarych (Richard), Della Hurley, Timothy Hurley (Cheryl) and Rebbecca Albert (Gilles), her eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, as well as her sisters, Nancy McGregor, Karen Frank and Linda Buffie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Reinhold (Ray) Wadien (2015), and her sisters, Ruth, Dona and Shirley.
Betty will be greatly missed and remembered for the kindness and care that she bestowed on those who were lucky enough to have crossed her path; she really had a heart of gold! Her professional life ranged from working as an instructor for the Singer Sewing Company in the 1950s, a knitting machine instructor, and, an office worker (and manager) for Crawley McCracken.
Her generous volunteer work consisted of knitting hats, socks and sweaters for premature infants at the Children's Hospital, as well as toques, scarves and mittens for the Christmas Cheer Board. She was extraordinarily talented and her hobbies ranged from gardening, knitting, needlepoint, sewing, quilting, and many more creative crafts which were all gifts of love.
The love and care she gave to animals, whether cats, rabbits or birds had no bounds; she loved them all.
Special thanks to the management, staff and residents of the Maples Personal Care Home, Winnipeg.
A service will be held on October 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. The service will be officiated by a longtime family friend, Gerhard Friesen (with many special thanks). Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of your choice.

  • Mom was one of a kind and will miss her terribly. She was and will always be my world. She was so talented and caring. Growing flowers, quilting, sewing, needlework were just a few of many crafts she did. Love you mom xoxo Rebbie - Posted by: Nancy Albert (Daughter) on: Oct 18, 2019
