CHRISTINE ROSE CORMIER
1935 - 2019

Christine Rose Cormier (Nelson), 84, died peacefully in her sleep, October 3, 2019 at the Victoria General Hospital.
Chris was predeceased by her parents, Herman and Josephine Nelson; her in-laws, Raymond and Minna Cormier; as well as all of her four aunts.
Chris is survived by her loving husband Al Cormier of Winnipeg; as well as her brother Bob Nelson (Sophie), of Prince Albert SK; numerous nieces and nephews; and her favourite nephew Jim (Angie) Nelson from Saskatchewan; sisters-in-law, Norris (Lorne), Cameron, Val (Don) Park of Winnipeg.
Chris was born in Tyndall, MB where she went to school and made many school friends that she never forgot. She left Tyndall in 1951 to begin her career with the Manitoba Telephone System as an operator in Gimli, MB and continued in Winnipeg for 37 years, achieving the title of Manager of Operator Services for all of Manitoba.
She met her husband Al Cormier, also an M.T.S. employee, in 1952 and married in 1957.
Her many hobbies were 10 pin bowling, crocheting for the Telephone Pioneers (Hello Dolly Project), and cooking great meals on a wood fired cook stove at the summer cottage on Corkscrew Island in Lake of the Woods. All those hobbies came to an end after her severe stroke in 1994.
Chris challenged this problem by getting her drivers licence back, getting involved with the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba and running the St. James peer group for 10 years. Her last five years of health care were a struggle.
I would like to thank her home care staff and nurses for their help over the last 18 months and also the staff at Victoria General Hospital during her final days.

At last you are now free from pain and
discomfort, rest in peace my darling.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to: Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or The Stroke Recovery Association Manitoba, Unit B - 247 Provencher Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G6.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019.
