DORIS IRENE FOSTER
(nee PHIPPEN)
Doris is lovingly remembered by her daughter Wendy; son Russ; her grandchildren, Dean, Debbie, David, Katherine, Michael, Jeff and Greg; her eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill and daughter Judy.
Doris was born September 2, 1921 in Fort Garry, one of eight sisters. She married Joseph William Foster in 1944 and they were blessed with three children, Judy, Russ and Wendy.
Bill, our Dad, contracted polio in the 1950s epidemic and Mom became his sole caregiver so that he could remain at home in the West End until his passing in 1973. Mom raised her family and was active in Home Street United Church. She loved to sing and joined the Winnipeg Seniors' choir as well as a bowling league after Dad's death. Eventually she moved back to Fort Garry joining Fort Garry United Church and singing in the choir. She resided at Adamar Place until her health necessitated a move to Beacon Hill Lodge Care Home where she received kindness and care from all the staff.
A memorial service will be held in Doris' memory on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, followed by a reception in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
