JOHN L. MIKLASH
1927 - 2019

On Monday, October 14, 2019, with his wife of 67 years by his side, John passed away at the Grace Hospital.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary; daughters, Leslie (Roman) and Lisa; grandchildren, Callahan and Harley; as well as other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Stella and John A.; and sister Lorraine.
John will be remembered for his kind and caring personality and his many years of devotion to his wife. John chose to retire early to spend time with family after many years with Winnipeg Hydro, where he was a superintendent in the metering and instrumentation department. While retired, John's interest in mechanisms continued and this became his hobby where he loved to 'tinker' and repair clocks, of which he was very proud.
Special thanks to Ingrid Kapun, neighbour and close friend; and relatives Brian and Alice Thomson; who were there for John and Mary in their time of need. Also thanks to the Grace Hospital for their kindness and guidance.
Interment will be held in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue on October 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival meet at the Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
Flowers gratefully declined.

  • In 1991 we were in Winnapeg. My mother asked me to call Aunt Stella. That’s how I met John. We kept in touch ever since usually at Christmas time. A couple of weeks ago I tried to call. Then I tried again a week later and left a message. About a week later I see that I have a call from him. I returned the call to find myself talking with Leslie. She gave me the sad news. I will miss hearing his gentle voice and hearing the latest of him and sweet Mary. Please accept our deepest feelings of sympathy. He was a talented man and it was he who opened the door for the Geneology of the Mikolash clan. We will miss him so much. Rest with the Angels, dear John. - Posted by: Joan (Stuckel) Egger (Second cousin. My grandmother (Anne) was Johns nephew. ) on: Nov 17, 2019

  • I remember all the family dinners as a kid, and whenever we would visit he would show us his room full of clocks which was a passion of his, later on I would often see him and my Aunty Mary driving thru Kildonan Park they would stop and we would chat for a bit, unfortunately have not spoken to either of them in a few years, but will never forget his warm smile, which was always welcoming. My prayers go out to the entire family during this time of sorrow. - Posted by: Debbie Turner(Pietracci) (niece) on: Oct 21, 2019

  • John and Mary are neighbors of my Mom. He will always be in our thoughts as a man who was so caring for Mary and everyone around him. My mom couldn't have a better couple as neighbors. Much love to Mary and family - Posted by: Colette Piche (neighbor) on: Oct 21, 2019

  • John and Mary were friends of my parents. As a child, I remember being at their house around Christmas time and remember John as being a quiet, gentle man. After many years, they both still cross my mind often. My condolences to Mary and family. - Posted by: Sheryl Burdett (Saper) (Friend) on: Oct 21, 2019
