November 12, 1924 - October 23, 2019
Neuendorf, UKR
Helene passed away peacefully on October 23, 2019 at Vista Park Lodge.
She is survived by her son Richard, his wife Lorrie, four grandchildren: Sabrina, Ryan (Meghan), Bryce, Brett, great-granddaughter Ayla - her daughter Angie Lohr, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard, her brother Peter, and sister Katie.
Helene was born in Neuendorf, UKR, November 12, 1924. Her family fled to Germany where she met and married her husband Richard in Roslau. After the war they immigrated to Canada where they enjoyed life with family and friends - day trips to Grand Beach and later a cottage at Brereton Lake where many great memories were made. Leni was a large part of German Society and spent endless hours volunteering and helped where she could. She adopted many daughters and sons. She worked very hard her entire life, making sure everyone was looked after. There was always plenty of food for everyone.
Thanks to the great staff at Vista Park Lodge and those that visited and made her last days enjoyable.
We will all dearly miss her and her love for us.

I loved and admired Leni very much. We both lived at Fort Garry Place and volunteered together for Christkindl Markt and other jobs for the German Society of Winnipeg. We exercised at the gym together and I admired her. You will never be forgotten, Leni! RIP - Posted by: Lisa Martynec (Friend) on: Jul 12, 2020

Our sincere apologies for the delayed condolences. I met Helen at a very young age as a child. She was a dear friend to my parents. My Mother (Tamara Mutter) was her last dearest companion who attended the Manitoba Opera for several decades. I had the lovely opportunity to attend sitting with your Mom & mine. Tamara was deeply saddened as they used to speak occasionally on the phone. She was aware Helen moved from Fort Garry Place with ongoing health issues. I believe they spoke a few earlier before her passing. I have fond memories of your Mom who was always a fashion statement & a very kind lady. Unfortunately, my Mom could not attend her funeral as she was not well. I believe my Mom from this group of ladies maybe the last one left. Our deepest sympathy with love & hugs to her family. God Bless Laura Calder & Tamara Mutter xo - Posted by: Laura Calder & Tamara Mutter (Longtime family friend.) on: Mar 25, 2020

Mrs. Dobel was a longtime loyal member of the German Canadian Congress of Manitoba where she faithfully served as volunteer in many capacities. I will always remember her love for life, love for love, great jokes, wonderful smile and beautiful dirndls, traditional german garb of days past, especially at the annual ChristKindl Markt, a local german Christmas market. What a remarkable person. I meet Helene and her son and my friend Rick, as a boy when both my Dad and Helene worked together at Robinson Little and Company. My Dad ran logistics for the distribution of the store goods from the warehouse to the retail stores from Sherwin Road in Winnipeg. Helene was part of a hard working team that filled the individual store orders that would be placed onto a long conveyor and then bound and shipped to over 200 retail Robinson stores in smaller towns across western Canada. The organization and the people within the company worked very hard and truly enjoyed one another, developed friendships and many became lifelong friends. People like Bruce Leckie, Sandy Gibb, Merv Penuita and Cornie Klassen are some examples. Helene was hard working, very kind and always made time for me whenever I saw her. Rick, from my family to yours, please accept our deepest sympathies . We hope that the many memories that you have of your beautiful mom will carry you in your years ahead. While life certainly moves us along after we lose those we love so much, we never stop missing them. - Posted by: richard brownscombe (Son of co worker) on: Oct 26, 2019
