JOSEPH HAYS
He leaves to mourn his children, Gerald (Doreen), Judy (John), Kathleen (Anne) and Jim; his granddaughters, Patricia (Ron) and Darla (Brad) and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (married for 72 years); daughter Jean; son John; daughter-in-law Luella and granddaughter Suzanne.
Joe was born into a family of five children. He lived on a farm near Hamiota, MB. The family moved to Edmonton where he spent his childhood years.
During the Second World War, Joe served with the Canadian Air Force as a military police officer from 1942 to l945.
It was during the war that he met Kathleen and together they moved to Winnipeg where they lovingly raised a family of six in Transcona.
Joe worked for International Harvester for 35 years. In his retirement, he took a summer job at Crescent Drive Golf Course. He and Kathleen spent their retirement years in Charleswood and were members of The Royal Canadian Legion.
Joseph had a rich life filled with family and friends. He loved music and enjoyed playing guitar. Joe was one of the founders of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and was a staunch member of the church choir. His favourite sports were golfing in the summer and curling in the winter. Joe and Kathleen travelled every winter to warm destinations; his favourite being Hawaii.
The family would like to thank the patient and loving staff at Holy Family Nursing Home that cared for Joseph in his final years. A special thank you to Andrea Enriquez for the kindness she has shown Joe.
