PATRICIA (PAT) ANN FINLAYSON
(née DAVIES)

Peacefully, on October 15, 2019, Patricia (Pat) Finlayson, passed away with family by her side.
She is survived by her husband Mel of 63 years, sister Eileen, brother John (Julia), son Greg (Marcy), daughter Judy Antony (Dennis), son Doug (Cindy), grandchildren: Brian and Olivia, daughter Kristy Settee (Charles), grandchildren: Cash, Kristal (Sam), great-grandchildren: Colten and Tidus, and lifetime friend, Marilyn Melnyk. She was predeceased by her sister June Tod.
Pat was born in Edmonton and moved to Winnipeg at the age of 10. Pat and Mel attended the same schools from the time she arrived, and Mel always said, "She had her eye on me right from the start!" In time, they fell in love, married in 1956 and had four children.
Pat was very involved in CGIT (Canadian Girls in Training) in the United Church. From her youth membership, she moved on to a leadership role, where she mentored many girls throughout her lifetime. She was the Chair of various CGIT Boards and Committees, and she thoroughly enjoyed being a cook at camp for many years and made many special friendships. All of Pat's lifetime work was honoured on the occasion of CGIT's 100th Anniversary. Anyone wishing to wear their CGIT middy to the service, please feel free to do so.
Pat and Mel enjoyed many years at their cottage on Jessica Lake, where they spent wonderful times with family and friends. They travelled to Parksville, Vancouver Island for many years and vacationed in the British Isles with friends, Marilyn and Walter Melnyk. Their East Coast trip was also very special.
Mom was an incredibly gifted artist. She brought the beautiful images that she had seen in her travels to life. She never realized how good she really was.
Mom loved spending time with her family, especially the time with her grandchildren. Everyone was drawn to her quiet, gentle manner and subtle humour. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends that her life touched.
We wish to thank the staff at West Park Manor for their comfort and care of Mom and our family, during her time spent there.
To honour her memory, she asked that donations could be made to Rossbrook House or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Westworth United Church - 1750 Grosvenor Avenue at Lanark, Winnipeg.

  • Ray and I were honoured to spend several years with Pat at CGIT Camp Brereton as a cook and handyman. Wonderful memories and special times as Pat in her quiet way would lead all us all to provide a nourishing Christian time for all the girls attending. Wonderful friendships were made. It was our privilege to be part of her team. Thank you Pat ... you definitely were 'The Girl God Wanted You to Be'. Much love to Mel and the family as you cherish and celebrate her memory and the legacy she left behind. Heather Crockett & Ray McClelland - Posted by: Heather Crockett (Friend) on: Oct 30, 2019

  • I was saddened to learn of Pat's passing. I have very fond memories of my time in CGIT in Brandon when she was my leader, approximately 1963-65. May your wonderful memories sustain you during this time of loss. - Posted by: Beth Anderson (McKenzie) (Former CGIT member from Brandon ) on: Oct 29, 2019
