CATHERINE (BOWEN-EVANS) SUTTON

Catherine Sutton, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away suddenly at the Grace Hospital on October 24, 2019 at the age of 88.
Mom was born and raised in Norwood. This is where she met and married Henry Sutton in 1953. They raised six children together.
Predeceased by Henry (1989) and son Ralph (1977). She is survived by her children, Norine, Florence (Doug), Kathy (Greg), Jim, Bill (Lisa); her seven grandchildren, Dave (Lynne), Ken (Cindy), Cathy (Trevor), Donald (Sheri), Cindy (Ray), William (Kimberly), Brandon (Heather); nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mom spent her life dedicated to her family as we moved around during military life, finally settling in Winnipeg. Her favourite pastimes were being in the yard working her gardens and just plain hanging out with her "fur babies." She loved to knit, having family dinners and playing card games like canasta with her favourite "poop-@sses." After her children grew up, she volunteered at three schools in the area so she could be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren working in the reading programs until she was 80.
We would like to acknowledge our brother Jim for his never-ending care of mom over the last few years. We would also like to thank Centered Care, WHRA home care, Dave Monteith and Jenny Thomas for their kindness and care.
Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Monday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers are Dave and Ken Macri, Bill, William and Brandon Sutton, Donald Welch and honorary pallbearer Nick Cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be graciously made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. (Alzheimer.mb.ca)

  • Our sincere condolences of the passing of Auntie Cathy. Both Jim and I remember so well the great times we spent with your family while we were posted in Rivers, Manitoba. - Posted by: Shirley and Jim McClary (Nice) on: Nov 03, 2019

  • What can I not say about this women. She was beautiful inside and out. She loved babies - any baby you brought around her she would just melt.. in her final months before her passing I brought my son (her great-great-grandson) to come visit her. And she loved it, she was full of smiles clapping with my son singing and didn’t want the baby to go. She told me to leave the baby and come get him later❤️ You were stubborn but a good type of stubborn and I’m gonna miss that and your kind heart the most❤️ Love you so much grandma ❤️❤️ - Posted by: Katherine (Great grand daughter ) on: Nov 02, 2019
