WILLIAM THOMPSON
Bill leaves to treasure his memory, his wife of 68 years, Jean; daughters, Sheena (Bill) Graham and Rae (Milt) Jones; grandchildren, Scott Graham, Bryan (Fiona) Graham, Amanda (Doug) Epp and Geoffrey (Leah) Roth; as well as great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kaylana, Goeffrey, Jahnaya, Micah, Eli, Parker, Elin, Lily and Alexcis.
He was predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Jean Thompson; brother Tom, and sister Margaret Kerr.
Bill was born in Scotland on March 25, 1925. He immigrated to Winnipeg in 1968 with his wife Jean and his two daughters. Bill loved his family so very much and adored his legacy with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill's hobbies included curling at Deer Lodge Curling Club for many years and being a member of the Winnipeg Centennial Pipe Band with his brother Tom. Dad loved to dance and one of his favourite toe-tapping tunes was 'Somewhere My Love' from Dr. Zhivago. He was an avid reader of Scottish poet Robert Burns and had a library of books. Bill was also a long-time member of the St. James Legion #4.
The family would like to thank Arles Decorte and the entire nursing staff on 3 North of Deer Lodge Centre for their care and compassion of Dad. Also, sincere thanks to Chaplain Jonathan Jandavs-Hedlin and Ernie for their spiritual prayers and comfort for Dad and the family.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
When I am gone, my spirit will be with you,
Like a heartbeat, I will steady you,
My soul will be your guidance and
my love will be your strength.
Do not weep for me, for I am in the wind
and the water and the sky.
Each day will pass a little easier than the last,
But for the days where things seem unclear,
Listen to your heart,
I'll be whispering, "I'm here".
My life may take me far and wide,
Each corner of the earth,
But Scotland's always home to me,
The country of my birth.
