Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Jim, throughout his life, was the quintessential spouse, family man and friend. In late 1957, I met Jim when I was dumped into a "misfit" Gr. 11 boys class at Kelvin: Jim, Bruce and I, "the academics", became instant lifelong friends. My family and I continually shared not only the company of Jim's family but also his remarkable talents: photography, cottages and insightful discussion and advice.. Their effects have all immeasurably rippled through and enhanced our life's paths Dementia exacts a terrible price, none more tragic than Jim's recent loss of his emotional support and remarkable soulmate Marj. My family and I express our deepest sympathy to the family for their loss. - Posted by: John (Lifetime Friend) on: Nov 27, 2019

  • David, Jim and your families. Our deepest sympathy re the passing of your Dad. We have fond memories when you all lived on our street. We are currently on a vacation trip and unable to attend the service. Your parents are now together again. May they Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Wayne & Doreen Buzahora (Former neighbours) on: Nov 23, 2019

  • Jim was a new friend in grade 11, and on through university years. We had a common interest in photography and I learned from him. We shared a "car pool" transportation to university with strong friends. After I left Winnipeg in 1963, I was pleased to see Jim and Marj a couple of times during visits. Jim is an important person from my past. - Posted by: Bruce Langdon (friend) on: Nov 21, 2019

  • Jim is remembered as a loving husband and father to all of his children and grandchildren. I remember Jim as well as a brother- my only sibling and brother. Jim will always be in my heart and prayers. Jim is a graduate of the U of M as receiving a BA and a Law Degree as our father. There were frequent arguments and debates going on during our family dinners with Jim present and Jim would always find a topic that Dad and I would disagree with. Jim was an expert cook and when our parents were away on a vacation or conferences we had a deal that Jim would do the cooking and I would do the dishes and cleanup and this worked well for both of us. Jim had a love for photography and would look to purchase the next upgrade of camera. He had a darkroom in our home where he would develop his own pictures. Jim provided pictures for the Manitoban. Jim had a great love for building and had all the skills of an electrician and plumber as well. Jim and I together built our first two cottages at Pistol Lake. Then Jim went on to build another cottage at Hilly Lake near Kenora and latterly a large cottage at Lake of the Woods in Manitoba. • Our deepest condolences to David and Jimmy and their respective families on the passing of their beloved Dad. May your fondest memories of him ease the pain of losing him knowing that he is now in a better place with your Mom. - Posted by: Aurea Penner (Brother in law) on: Nov 20, 2019

  • A friend arranged a carpool with Jim in September 1961. After classes, I connected with Him in the UMSU darkroom (University of Manitoba) for the ride home. A few days into the term, I saw a young man standing in the doorway of the darkroom. The story lasted for over 50 years after Nick, the young man in the doorway, and I married. Nick and Jim were great friends highlighted by their adventure building Jim’s cottage at Pistol Lake and their shared passion for photography. Memorable is their building and fibreglassing a 6-foot long darkroom sink so they could process a life-sized figure. Jim loved an intense discussion, he was well-suited to the profession he chose. He enjoyed words but he also enjoyed working with his hands. Nick and I met Marjorie through a group of guys from the darkroom who were dating some girls who knew each other but I believe I can take credit for encouraging Jim to date Marjorie. It was great to have shared a time and place in the universe with Jim and Marjorie. - Posted by: Frances Andrusiak (Family friend) on: Nov 20, 2019

  • Sorry for your loss! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! - Posted by: Rhonda Chappellaz (Co-worker to Joanne) on: Nov 20, 2019
