GLEN ROBERT ALEXANDER FLECK
October 25, 1938 - November 19, 2019

With his family at his side, Glen lost his battle with cancer.
He leaves to mourn his son Rick and
daughter Kathy (Lars) Olson; grandson Chris (Heather) Olson, great-granddaughters, Nora and Chloe; granddaughter Cara (Harrison) Nemez, great-granddaughter Emelia and great-grandbaby to be. He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Betty Wiklund and Helen Klassen, and brother Stu Fleck. Many nieces, nephews, in-laws, honorary granddaughters, Jenn, Amy and Jessie, and relatives too
numerous to mention.
He was predeceased by his daughter Lori in 1962, and his wife Alice in 2015 after 56 years of marriage.
Glen grew up the third child and first son of Bob and Mabel Fleck in the La Riviere/Manitou area, a place that has always remained special to him. After moving to Winnipeg, he met the love of his life at
Du-Rite Cleaners. They married and started a family in April of 1959. Glen had always been handy, mechanically inclined, and could fix anything. We called him supervisor Glen, he always seemed to know how to do something a better way or knew of a quicker and easier fix. He spent most of his working career in pre-cast cement, with BACM, Con-Force and Genstar. He had a hand in constructing many building and bridges in and around Manitoba. He also spent several years in Minneapolis consulting on jobs there. In the 1970s they purchased their cottage in La Riviere and many weekends were spent with friends and family, hill parties in the winter, fondues at the compound, drinks and cards in the cabin. He loved spending time at the garage, first with brother-in-law Albert and then with his nephew Les. He also spent hours driving backroads in the Valley with his grand-children, starting them in their car seat from newborns (and returning when the diaper was full or they were hungry). He always had a story about a place you would pass, and while we were never quite sure if they were true or how he knew these things, he was
consistently a wealth of knowledge. He loved to sit and people watch and had the hearing of a hawk, you could whisper something and somehow he heard it, filed it away and could recall it even years later. He always had a joke and made you smile. His family will
remember all the quiet kindness and thoughtfulness. Whether it was saving the last of something for you, keeping all the Twix bars for the grandkids, a Werther's candy (even if you didn't like them), Rice Krispie treats for the great-grandkids, and his gentle warm smile and hug. His family has special memories of not only the time spent in La Riviere but also the most recent memories of spending weekends at the lake for the past two years. All of us together, making some amazing last memories, including his 80th birthday celebration last year.
The family would like to thank his family physician Dr. MacMillan, Dr. Paul and Nubia from CancerCare, all the nurses from
Palliative care, in particular the nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or the Rotary Club of Winnipeg Assiniboine Charitable Foundation (RCWACF), P.O. Box 42106, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3X7.

  • To me, Glen was the quiet, gentle rock, that you could always depend on. His laugh was infectious and he had a smile that drew you in. My earliest memory was when I stayed with Alice & Glen, when I was 12, for the summer. He didn't say much, but he was always there whenever you needed him. Alice once told me that his sideburns reminded her of Elvis - she was a fan! Glen, you'll be sorely missed by all who knew you. Lots of love to the rest of the family. I wish we could be there for your service. - Posted by: Susan MacKenzie (Sister-in-law) on: Nov 23, 2019
