JOAN POLISH
Her immediate family, brother Ted, sister-in-law Evelyn and nephew Steven, and his family Linda, Kiera and Quinn and close friends celebrated her 81st birthday on November 17 with her, in the party room at Riverview. After this, Joan watched the western final football game and cheered the Bombers on their way to the Grey Cup. This, her last day was a great day and exactly what she would have wanted. We are all left now to mourn the loss of an amazing, loving and generous person.
Joan retired from the federal government, water survey branch in Winnipeg, after 35 years of service. Holidays were spent travelling around the world, and most enjoyed were her trips to South Africa, Europe, Russia, Australia and China. Joan also cruised to the Mexican Riviera, Caribbean, and Alaska.
Joan used all this travel experience to volunteer, at Manitoba Society of Seniors, planning trips for seniors throughout North America. Later, she organized bus tours in and around Manitoba with many trips to the health spa in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
Please join us to celebrate a life well lived on Tuesday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
A special heartfelt thank you goes to all the staff at Riverview Health Centre that made Joan's last days comfortable and warm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Joan's name to Siloam Mission or to the Christmas Cheer Board.

Joan was one of the first people I met when I started working for the Water Survey of Canada back in 1979. Her office was always full of good humour. You could always tell the season just by poking your head in her office. Condolences to the family. They say we become a little bit of everyone we meet. I'm a son of Des Kinley, a co-worker of Joan's in her Water Survey days. My dad was quite fond and respectful of Joan as a team member at work and of course that led to me getting to know her at various functions over the years. A spirited gal, Joan liked to get things done but also share a belly full of laughs and good times. Although my dad's illness prevented him from doing so, my mom joined Joan for several of her MSOS tours. It seemed she was made for that line of work and enjoyment was priority one on those tours. My late mother, and my late aunt, were two of the many, many seniors who traveled with Joan over the years. They both spoke glowingly of Joan and her talents at arranging travel for such diverse groups; both were saddened when ill health prevented further travels.
