ERNESTINE P. BONNEAU
(nee GRIFFITH)
1927 - 2019

The heart of our family, Ernestine, passed away in the early hours of November 21, 2019.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 70 years, Marcel, her two daughters, Lauranne and Delle, her son, Marc, and son-in-law Rusty. She will be forever remembered for her love of life and family by her grandchildren, Lindsay Moir (Taylor Kostiuk), Devon Bonneau (Chantelle), Arthur Bonneau (Tori) and Taira Bonneau. She will also be remembered by her newest joys, her great-grandchildren, Cayleigh, Daxton, Jacob and Elliot Bonneau. Left with memories to comfort them are her younger siblings, Jo Garner, Gwen Pattison, Grace Wessner and Ed Griffith, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Pauline Patterson, father, Arthur Griffith, brother Art Griffith, her granddaughter, Mollie Moir, and her daughter-in-law, Pauline Duncan Bonneau.
Ernestine loved people! She welcomed everybody into her family and had many 'adopted' sons and daughters. She loved to celebrate all occasions: birthdays, anniversaries, special days, in fact any gathering of friends was a time for a party.
It was important to Ernestine to stay at home and raise her children, surrounding them with the love, support and care that only she could give. She took her love of people during those years to give of herself to many volunteer positions, including her memorable times with her S.W.A.P.S. a senior entertainment group. Once all of her children were safely out of the nest, she decided to turn her volunteer work into a career and became Activity Director at Tuxedo Villa.
The most incredible part of Ernestine was her amazing relationship with her husband, Marcel. He was the nitro to her glycerine, the oil to her water, the yin to her yang, her 'Old Dear' and the Old Goat!! They were told they would never last, but at the end Ernestine wanted to do her life with Marcel all over again. She also discovered the term GOAT had taken on a new significance as he now was 'the Greatest Of All Time', and that suited her perfectly.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michelle Evans, the staff on the 6th Floor Family Medicine at St. Boniface Hospital, the staffs on many floors at the Misericordia Health Care Centre, the amazing people at The Wellington, her home care workers and her many friends for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her memory will be held on May 6, 2020 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Dear Marcel and family, It was a shock to hear of Ernestine's recent passing. My heartfelt condolences for your great loss. You and Ernestine were always so warm and caring of me, your cleaning lady for many years. I always felt appreciated, was always treated with kindness. Even after I finished cleaning for you, you continued to be generous with contributions for organizations that my husband and I were passionate about. I still have a beautiful, colourful dish that Ernestine gave me when I discontinued cleaning for you. I often think of her and you too, Marcel. I'm sure you will miss her very much! May her memories give you comfort and peace. Love, Susan Pries - Posted by: Susan Pries (Friend) on: Dec 01, 2019

  • Delle, Your mom was the light in every room she entered. I know exactly how you feel right now, but as each day and year passes you will realize she is always there ... she is that little thought that jumps in your mind that makes you smile. My thoughts go to you, Marcel and family. Take care. Shar - Posted by: Shar (Former family employee ) on: Nov 30, 2019
