IDA SCHUSTER
In September 1943 she and her family had to escape from Russia by horse and carriage. It took them six months to get to Poland. They travelled in rain, ice and snow storms. It was a difficult and exhausting journey which wore them out and it was all in vain. Eight months later Ida and her family were separated and she didn't see her family for 31 years.
Ida was sent by the Red Cross to Kiel, Germany for nurses training in December 1944, and graduated as a registered nurse in June 1948.
Ida immigrated to Canada in July 1949. She worked at the Grace Hospital for one year, Christie Biscuits for seven years and at Burns Foods for 30 years.
Ida was a member of McDermot Avenue Baptist Church. Our departed is now able to be with her Lord.
She is survived by her brother Helmut and family in Germany, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to whom she was a great blessing during her lifetime.
A life filled with numerous hardships did not diminish her indomitable spirit and she will be remembered as always active, always caring and always giving.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
