BOYD THOMAS HALLS
June 17, 1940 - December 3, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather Boyd Halls, on December 3, 2019 with his family by his side at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 79 years.
Boyd was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Darcy and Darrell Halls; brothers-in-law Doug Zarn, George Anderson, Ed Kshywieski and Nestor Halabiski; and sister-in-law Shirley Halabiski.
Boyd will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Helen; son Trevor (Nancy); daughter Marcia (Scott); grandchildren, Laurisa, Rachelle, Taylor and Brandyn; and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Milo; his sisters, Ann Zarn and Doreen Benzie (Don); sisters-in-law Sylvia, Pat Penner (Jim), Edith Anderson, Betty Phau; and many nieces and nephews.
Boyd was born on June 17, 1940 in Reston, MB to Harriett and Earl Halls. At the age of 18 he moved to Winnipeg where he met his wife Helen. Boyd and Helen married in July 1961. They lived in Winnipeg for a few years and welcomed their first son Trevor in 1965. Boyd and family took the trek up north to The Pas to work for Northwest Electric as an electrician. They later moved to Leaf Rapids and then settled in Thompson for 33 years where their daughter Marcie was born in 1980. Boyd was the successful owner/operator of his construction company, Nor-Man Electrical/Mechanical Construction Ltd. for over 25 years. While in northern Manitoba they had a cabin at Clearwater Lake near The Pas and then at Setting Lake, where they would spend many free weekends with his beloved family and many good friends. Boyd was involved in his community throughout the years. He was an active and lifetime member of the Kinsmen Club where he and Helen met many great lifelong friends. He was also on the Mystery Lake Figure Skating board for many years serving in multiple positions. Boyd had a love for flying. He would fly to isolated communities for work and then later would fly for pleasure. His love for flying led him to many years of active involvement with the Thompson Regional Airport Authority.
Boyd and Helen moved to Winnipeg in 2005 where they built a lovely home in the Tuxedo area and were part of the Charleswood Rotary Club. Boyd and Helen also loved their winter home in Mesa, AZ where he enjoyed golf, watching sports, playing poker every Wednesday and getting together with friends when the mountains turned pink. Boyd loved his grandchildren dearly. Over the recent years, he enjoyed their visits, both in Winnipeg and at their Arizona retreat. He loved watching his grandkids play sports and other activities. He was their number one cheerleader. This coming ball season will be very different without "banka" cheering the kids on and providing them post game tips as he grew up playing baseball and had a passion for it. He was greatly appreciated for his loving support, wisdom and kindness throughout their lives.
A Celebration of Boyd's Life will be held on January 4, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. We look forward to this gathering of family and friends.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and compassionate care.
If friends so desire, donations can be made in memory of Boyd Halls to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, C1026-409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg MB R2H 2A6.

  • We would like to extend or condolences to Boyd’s family. I worked with Boyd back in the seventies, both in The Pas and at the Ruttan mine in Leaf Rapids. During this time he was both my electrical Supervisor and Foreman. I always enjoyed working with Boyd. We are sad to hear of his passing.
