DAVID WILSON MUIR
August 29, 1941 - December 14, 2019

On December 14, 2019, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Wilson Muir; his sisters, Heather Atkinson and Sandra Burrows; and his son Lance Muir.
Dave is survived by his two children, Melanie Backman (Tony) and Dean Muir; daughter-in-law Cassandra Gibb; son-in-law Ken Schneider; stepchildren, Audrey Melanson (Troy), Richard Behm and Lori Owen (Tim); grandchildren, Karleigh Gibb (Brad), Richard Lund, Curtis Schneider and Kerri Schneider (Wesley); three great-grandchildren, Colton, Maddox and Blake; and his sister Thora Clutterback (Roy) and their families.
Born in Montreal, Dave and his family moved to Winnipeg in the mid 1950s. As a young man Dave worked at the family business, Academy Driving School and later, until retirement David worked in the garment manufacturing industry at Wescot Fashions and later, Standard Knitting. Dave was a wrester with the AWA and an avid bowler, with a perfect score! But golfing was his true passion. He was well travelled and spent the early part of his retirement years travelling between Kelowna and Winnipeg, spending time with his sister before she passed. For most of his adult life Dave lived in St. Boniface with his wife Evelyn and family and often spoke with pride of the home renovations they completed together. Dave loved home improvement projects and throughout the years assisted many family and friends.
A very special thank you to John and Goretti Bettencourt for their many years of friendship. In his eyes, you were and will always be family.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Dave was my uncle when he was with my aunt Evelyn. I remember uncle Dave coming over and being mesmerized because he was on TV and now in my place, he often got us free tickets to AWA matches in Winnipeg and I loved every moment of it so much that years later I became a wrestler myself and I used my uncle last name Muir to pay homage to him. My promoter wanted uncle Dave and myself to be a team for one night by that time he already retired I found out a little while ago that uncle Dave passed....thank you Dave for all those great matches we attended and thank you Dave in general. - Posted by: Elie Delorme (Uncle) on: Aug 31, 2025

  • Uncle David, I remember the day I decided to leave school because I thought I was smarter than everyone else and knew it all. There you were telling me if I wasn’t going to school then I needed a job. Lo and behold you got me a job at Wescot Fashions. Always keeping me out of trouble. You were a great Uncle and I will always remember our many chats about life and oh yes a good bit of gossip here and there too! Lol But most of all I will remember that wonderful smile you had with a little mischief behind it and how you loved your family so. Rest In Peace and have that cup of coffee waiting for me when I get there.❤️😘 - Posted by: Janet Tyslau (Neice) on: Dec 24, 2019
