Date of Passing: Dec 13, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN DOUGLAS POAPST
Our family is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, Allan Douglas Poapst, on December 13, 2019. Allan died in an accident while serving his beloved RCMP, a bold career change he made later in life.
Anyone who knows Allan and his challenges to authority as a child and young adult laughed a little at his choice of new career, but as is his way, he jumped in the deep end as boldly as possible, embracing his decision with every ounce of energy he had. He was intensely proud of serving, and was always happy with his career choice. His entire 13 year career was spent serving in his home province of Manitoba; his recent years in the Court Liaison Unit also took him to other parts of the country he had never seen before.
Allan leaves behind three amazing daughters, Krystal, Chelsie, and Caitlyn. He loved them deeply, even when Krystal gave him "the look" or the twins, Chelsie and Caitlyn, concocted some mischief together. They played board games, took road trips to visit family in Calgary (they look great in Western gear), and generally inherited Allan's enthusiasm for family, fun and games.
His enthusiasm for his hometown of Winnipeg caused him to jump in his truck days after his beloved Blue Bombers won the Western Final, and he achieved a dream of watching his Bombers win the Grey Cup live in person. In a story that will shock no one who knew him, he managed to talk his way into the team celebration and drink straight from the Grey Cup itself.
Our family will never be the same - we are missing the enthusiastic group picture taker, the handyman who has every tool that has ever existed inside his van, and the biggest hometown sports fan we all knew. He jumped to help in every situation with boundless enthusiasm.
In addition to his daughters, Allan is survived by his father Douglas, mother Patricia, brother Gregory, and a large extended family who loved him dearly.
He is predeceased by his loving sister, Lori. From now until the end of our days, we know the two of them are together, walking, laughing, and teasing each other. Brother, watch over her as well as you watched over us all your life.
There will be a Regimental Service for the public this Friday, December 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at the Bell MTS Place, courtesy of True North Sports and Entertainment.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donations be made for two things he cared about - his daughters and his fellow officers.

What a character! I have spent the last days regaling the hours of stories about "Big Al" with family and loved ones. Our friendship spanned 20 years through thick and thin and have seen him at all times in his life. The good times and the bad. Thought of him as the brother I never had. We had disagreements like brothers would but they would always be settled. But always he had a smile on his face! I am sure glad you came around in my life, Al. Love you and going to sure miss you......Darren - Posted by: Darren Ingleson (Friend) on: Dec 18, 2019

I first met Al in the Cash Security days when he was our go-to guy for anything lock or safe related. Later I got to know him better at conferences and found him to be one of the good guys. He will clearly be missed and condolences to his fine family. We are thinking of him down in Panama, so his reach went far and wide. - Posted by: James Foster (Friend) on: Dec 18, 2019
