JOSEPH GMITEREK
April 26, 1925 - December 14, 2019
He is survived by his son Ken (Ivanka) and grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey.
He was predeceased by his wife Olga, and his 10 siblings. They included brothers, Mike, John, Stan, Anton, Ed, and sisters, Kay, Mary, Rose, Jean and Helen.
Dad grew up in the R.M. of Brokenhead and attended Rattray School. In 1956 he married Olga Holyk and were married for over 60 years. One of the things that Dad liked to do was to go back to the farm, visit and catch up with what was going on. Mom always said you can take the boy out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy.
Dad was a carpenter and built many fine homes with his brothers, Anton and Ed. He later started his career with Manitoba Housing Authority, retiring as Supervisor in 1987. Joe like to travel, he had many fond memories of the trips to Mexico, Hawaii and Jamaica with his many friends and relatives. One of the things Dad and Mom loved to do was watch their grandchildren play sports, they attended all games and leagues until he was 74 years old. Dad and Mom moved into Fred Douglas Lodge in 2012 until Mom's passing in 2016 and Dad remained at the Maples Personal Care Home. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
A private interment has been held.
