GERTRUD J. FINKEN
(nee STOCK)

Gertrud J. Finken, born June 21, 1933, in Wald am Schoberpass, Steiermark, Austria, died December 31, 2019, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Oma was the heart and soul of our family. Her many roles included daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother (Oma), great-grandmother and true friend. She knew no strangers, only friends she hadn't met yet.
If there is one word that could describe our mother it would be love. She loved and was loved by all who knew her. She loved flowers, children, long walks and sitting by a warm fire. She loved adventures, and the changing seasons, especially at the beach. She loved to serve others. She loved life and lived each day with love. Most of all, she loved the Saviour Jesus Christ and testified of him often.
We can't quite imagine a new year without her in it but we know she will be watching closely over her growing family and that we will be together again someday. She is survived by son Hans (Cathy) and daughters, Vera Moore (John), Susan Finken Paunins (Frank), Joanne Thomson (Gordon) and Sharon Brownlow (Nigel). She leaves a lasting legacy in her 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren with 35th and 36th due in March. Also surviving her is her sister Christl Stock (Karl), brother-in-law Lueder Finken (Mary Hiebl), and sisters-in-law, Hildegard Stock, Gisela Finken and Heilwig Graf, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by husband Hans, great-grandson Adam Moore, her parents, and a number of her siblings and in-laws.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 45 Dalhousie Drive, Winnipeg.
A private family interment will take place at a future date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Such a wonderful memory of the Graf and Finken families that I spent time with as a missionary in the early 60's. - Posted by: Val John Jennings (friend of family) on: Jan 17, 2021

  • I will miss her smiling face and yes, the way she loved everyone and made everyone feel loved and special. She never spoke an unkind word and always made you feel included. The world is a better place for having her in it, and I believe my life is better having known her. - Posted by: Darcy Monchamp (Friend) on: Jan 03, 2020
