ERNEST JOSEPH TYCOLES
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Michael; brothers, Elmer, Walter, Fred; sister Helen; sister-in-law Marge; former wife Kathleen; and stepdaughter Lisa.
Ernie will be remembered by his loving wife Mavis, of 27 years; his brother John; his children, Fred, Rachael (Mike), Jackie (Sam); stepchildren, Bruce (Mary), Kelly (Brian), Roderic (Natalie); grandchildren, Cory, Johnathon, Fallon (Thomas); stepgrand-children, Amanda (Todd), Colin (Nichola), Ryan (Ashley), Stacie (Dylan), Riley and Jenna, seven stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gladys and Liz, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernie was born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan on June 4, 1931. Even though he grew up in the depression years, Ernie had many fond memories of his childhood. He started working with CN Rail in 1950 as a fireman and left Kamsack in 1960 with his family to work as an engineer in The Pas. They resided in The Pas for 14 years where Ernie enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. He was actively involved in hockey becoming the vice-president of the The Pas Minor Hockey Association. In 1974, the family moved to Winnipeg. Ernie's move to the city never deterred him from remaining a rabid Saskatchewan Roughrider fan to the end.
Ernie met Mavis in 1992 and enjoyed many years of shopping (garage sales), travelling together and spending summers at Betula Lake. In 1996, Ernie retired number one in seniority with over 46 years of service with CN and VIA Rail. At the lake, Ernie enjoyed fishing, card playing, gardening, socializing and playing his LP's, 8 track tapes and cassettes loud enough for everyone to hear.
Ernie will be remembered for his constant sense of humour and was one who lived by the adage,"Work Hard, Play Harder".
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you and a genuine appreciation to all the staff of the Vista Park Lodge for their kindness and care.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., at Thomson "In The Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

Sincerest condolences to Ernie's family. I worked with Ernie in 1980 when he was my Engineer Instructor on both the Rivers and Rainy River ends. He cooked for me, watched my progress, and sent me off for a great career with the CNR and then the Soo Line RR in Indiana. RIP Ernie. - Posted by: Rick Turriff (Co-Worker) on: Jan 04, 2020
