EVA LOUISE SCHROEDER
September 15, 1921 January 3, 2020
January 3, 2020 at the Grace Hospital,
surrounded by her family.
Mom was predeceased by her husband George, parents, Albert and Rose (Gervais) Dauphinais; brothers, James, Joseph and
Ernie; sisters, Marian, Theresa and Jean (Danis); brothers-in-law, Paul Gauthier and Camille Danis and sister-in-law Joanne
Dauphinais.
Left to cherish her memory are her
daughters: Dorothy Fingland (Bryan) and
Elizabeth Duncan (David); grandchildren, Shaun Fingland (Jennifer), Andrew Fingland (Natalie), and Megan Duncan (Michael); great-granddaughter Chelsea Fingland; sister Alma Gauthier; sister-in-law Carol
Dauphinais, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mom was born on September 15, 1921 in Starbuck, MB. She had a happy childhood with her seven brothers and sisters and the family remained close throughout their lives.
After graduation, Mom became a school teacher and taught in different rural schools and then accepted a position teaching in Gypsumville in 1951. On the train ride from Winnipeg, she met the love of her life George, who was hired to teach in St. Martin. They were married in 1952 and eventually settled in Lundar, MB, where they raised their two girls and taught school until retirement in 1978.
Mom loved to laugh and was a very gentle, loving person who always had a smile for
everyone. She truly loved her years of
teaching, and often spoke fondly of many of her past students. Mom not only taught the school curriculum to her students, but also passed on her values by example.
Mom had a deep, abiding faith and it was an integral part of her life. She was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church. While in Lundar, she made many friends, and found time to help with her church (St. Olaf's
Parish) and local women's organizations, and still provide a loving home for her family.
After retirement, mom and dad moved to Winnipeg, and she became active in St.
Gerard's Church plus volunteered at Concordia Hospital. Mom enjoyed gardening, and spent countless hours in the yard tending to her many flower beds.
She greatly loved her three grandchildren and great-granddaughter who adored her in return for her love, warmth and good nature. Her love was unconditional and she will be sorely missed by her entire family.
Prayers will be said on Tuesday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Reception to follow at the church. After the reception, a private family interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Shaun Fingland,
Andrew Fingland, Al Gauthier and
Christopher Dauphinais.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eva's memory to the Manitoba Lung
Association, 204 - 825 Sherbrooke Street,
Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5.

My condolences to you, Dorothy and Elizabeth. My brother Carl and I got our first teaching jobs in Lundar in the Fall 1959. So fortunate to have your dad as principal. I was there for only 1 yr. Carl for 2. I'll never forget the Christmas supper your mom made for us before we left for Saskatchewan for holidays. Your parents were such wonderful people who made us feel so welcome. May their souls rest in peace. - Posted by: Rudy Lambert (Friend, colleague) on: Mar 08, 2021

Sorry unable to attend the service for Eva. My condolences to Eva's family and to her sister Alma & family. I have so many fond memories of family get togethers either on Prevette or on Munroe at Jim's residence. Also short trips to Brandon to visit Joe & his family. Eva had a good sense of humour. Rest in peace Eva. Jeanette Gibson (Jim) - Posted by: Jeanette Gibson (friend) on: Jan 15, 2020

Mrs. Schroeder was one of my favourite teachers in elementary school. I remember well her kindness, warmth, and caring approach that encouraged learning by her students at the Lundar School. She was a lovely person, and a friend of our family and many people in the Lundar community. My sympathies go to her family, remembering Dorothy and Bud, and Betty and David, at this sad time.
