ALDO PERRELLI
March 5, 1925 - January 4, 2020

Surrounded by his family and with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear father, Aldo Perrelli, at the age of 94 years.
Aldo shall be forever missed by his children, Franca (Ercole), Olga (Camillo), Giuseppina (Joe), Biagio-Antonio (Dawn) and Daniela, as well as his grandchildren, Adela (Kris), Adam, Robert (Airesse), Tanya (Eduardo), Aldo, Breanna (Michal), Delaine, Marco and Sienna, great-grandchildren, Gabriela, Eliza and Eliana, sister-in-law Assunta and family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Italy.
He was predeceased by his wife Ida, son-in-law Don, his parents, Filomena and Biagio-Antonio, as well as all his siblings in Italy and his brother in Winnipeg, Emilio.
Aldo was born in Torano, Castello, Italy on March 5, 1925. Growing up he worked alongside his father, who was a bricklayer, but available work was dwindling.
At 16, he lied about his age to enter the army and was dispatched to the mountains of Bolzano in North Italy as soldier in the Air Defence Artillery. His squad was ambushed in their camp and Aldo became a prisoner of war for two years. When the camps were liberated, he began the long walk across Europe back to Torano.
He made it home and in 1949 married Ida, who would be his partner for an incredible 68 years. In 1951, Aldo and Ida had a growing family with one child and one on the way. Aldo made the tough decision immigrate to Canada alone to build a better life for his children.
He returned many times to Italy to visit and in 1966, was finally able to bring his family to Canada. By that time four children had been born in Italy and one more child would be born in Winnipeg.
Aldo's first job in Canada was as a lumberjack in Pine Falls. Later he joined CP Rail, where he worked for 15 years on the gangs across Canada making many lifelong friends.
In 1966, Aldo found a more stable position at Health Sciences Centre, where he worked in the laundry department until his retirement.
Aldo was passionate, kind, and generous to all with his time, his wisdom, his heart and his money. He filled his house with family and friends, nourishing each guest with plenty of food, his tomatoes and zucchini from his garden, and lovingly crafted homemade wine.
His hilarious jokes and captivating stories complete with animated acting, made him the life of every party, card game, or bocce match.
Aldo taught us many lessons. His passion for life, his work ethic, and his optimism were strong from his youth to his old age. Even at 93, he took the bus daily (winter and summer) to meet his friends, play cards and have an espresso. We hope to mirror these lessons and pass them to future generations. It was our great fortune to know and love such an honourable man.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg, MB on Saturday, January 11, 2020. Condolences will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Entombment will take place at the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum located at 3990 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
A luncheon will be held at Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB following Entombment.
The family would like to thank Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care and the fourth floor unit for their compassionate care.
