DOREEN SUTTER
(nee HENRY)
March 3, 1935 - December 21, 2019

The dash between Doreen's date of birth and passing holds the story of her lifetime. May we all keep a special part of that dash in our hearts.
Born Alma Doreen Henry in Neepawa, Manitoba. She was the daughter of the late William Silvester Henry and Eunice Vivian Henry (nee Tarry).
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 58 years, Gary Samuel Sutter; two daughters, Linda (John) and Laura (Carl); three grandchildren, Richard (Michael), Karen (Jeremy), and Derek.
Doreen met her husband Gary while they were both working at Great West Life. They married June 24, 1961 in Winnipeg. Later, Doreen worked at Kroehler Furniture. While she lived in Burlington, she held a real estate license. At their Florida home, Doreen worked as a fundraiser to help those in need. Doreen and Gary have enjoyed homes in Winnipeg, MB; Paddy Lake, ON; Burlington, ON; and Riviera Beach, FL. They took pleasure in cruises to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. Many treasured friendships were formed along the way.
Doreen loved her family above all else. Their lives were enriched by her thoughtfulness, generosity, and support. Her daughters will not forget the lessons of kindness and compassion she taught them. Her grandchildren are grateful for her unconditional love as she encouraged them to be the best they could be and to be true to themselves. Richard, Karen and Derek all knew that grandma was on their team.
Doreen received many compliments for her sense of style and creativity. She had a playful nature; she relished board games and cards with friends and family. She took pride in her gardening, her various collections (especially her turtles!) and loved chocolate.
Our loving, caring wife, mom, and grandma passed peacefully with family at her side.

"To live in hearts we leave
behind is not to die."
- Thomas Campbell

At Doreen's request, no formal services will be held. A private celebration of her life will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I met Gary and Doreen on our trip to Ireland in 2007. A very lovely who will be missed - Posted by: Paul Adler (Friend) on: Jul 30, 2020

  • I was so sad to hear of Doreen's passing. She was such a good friend to my mom. I was happy to have had a moment to talk with her at my mom's funeral as it had been several years since I had last seen her. With love and remembrance, Bonnie McKenzie (daughter of Phyllis Flint ) - Posted by: Bonnie McKenzie (Family acquaintance ) on: Jan 15, 2020

  • So sad to hear of Doreens passing. Our friendship with Doreen and Gary goes back so many years starting at Royal Lake resort and then the many years of great times at Paddy Lake Ontario. Even enjoyed part of our honeymoon with them in Niagara Falls. A great person and we have so many wonderful memories of the fun times we had together. She will be sadly missed.❣️ - Posted by: Greg & Judy Connon (Friends) on: Jan 11, 2020
