DEBBY ANN RICHARDSON
(HORWAT)
June 20, 1955 – January 8, 2020

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Debby, after her courageous battle with cancer. Her love of life, strength and fight will never be forgotten.
Mom will forever be remembered for numerous things…her green thumb, anyone who knew her knew her flower gardens were her pride and joy. Her love of Wallace Lake and fishing with Dad (Martyn), as well as her amazing tan that she acquired every year on her "trips home" with Dad to Mazatlan. Mom will also be remembered for being an amazing nurse, that was shown through her dedication to the children's and families lives she touched over the course of her 40 years at Children's Hospital. Even though Mom was a private person who chose to let others shine, her bright light will forever and always remain bright in our hearts, as well as anyone who knew her.
Mom will always be cherished and missed by her beloved husband Martyn; daughter Lisa; granddaughters, Kaelyn and Taryn; father Joseph; sister Valerie (Ken), as well as many other extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Anita, Maggie and all the other amazing palliative care staff at St. Boniface Hospital.
At Mom's request, no formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place for close family and friends at a later date.

"I'll like you forever…
I'll love you for always….
as long as I'm living my Mama you'll be…"

  • I am so sad to hear about Debby's passing. I worked with her in childrens hospital for 11 years. She was an awesome nurse and was a mentor to all of us! I remember she spoke of Martin and Lisa and her grandchildren often. She spoke about her turtle that lived in the house. Debby loved her trips to the cabin and Mazatalan. I appreciated seeing a familiar face again years later when my son Noah had an unplanned hospitalization. Taken too soon. Hugs to the family. - Posted by: Nicole (Co worker) on: Jan 17, 2020

  • Our heart felt condolences to Debbys family. We met Debby when our daughter was 3 years old at Childrens Hospital. Little did I know the impact this amazing lady would have on our family. Through complicated surgeries, over 300 admissions, and life threatening illnesses/situations...Debby was there! Debby was more than a nurse she was like family for us. My daughter Crystal often referred to Debby as her hospital Mom. Im grateful for all she did all her support and all the extra love she gave Crystal during her many admissions. Rest in Paradise Debby you were truly an Angel that walked among us. - Posted by: Cheryl & Steve Rondeau (freind) on: Jan 15, 2020

  • I was deeply saddened to her about Deb, I worked with you for so many years and knew that she was a huge part of your life. Why things happen the way they do is a mystery but there are so many of us that are a call away. My deepest sympathies and condolences, my Buddy. - Posted by: Terry Kulyk (Friend/Co-worker) on: Jan 14, 2020

  • The BEST mother, Baba, an best nurse ever. I love you De! Rio Knowing you did the BEST! - Posted by: Teresa (Colleague ) on: Jan 14, 2020

  • I am so sad hearing about the loss of Debby. She taught me as my “buddy nurse” as a student over 24 years ago. Her and Cheryl ( unit clerk on CH4 now has also passed) taught me so much as a nurse. The children she cared for she cared for like they were her own. She took me under her wing as a new nurse and made me the kind of nurse I am now. My thoughts go out to her family who she loved so much and talked about all the time. - Posted by: Shelly Taillieu (Co worker / friend ) on: Jan 13, 2020

  • I’m very sad to hear of Deb’s passing. And feel for those she’s left behind. Deb was kind and caring, and always welcomed me into her home. She was a 2nd Mom to me back in high school and I looked up to both her and Marty during this impressionable time. They are probably the reason I’m a nurse and a car lover. My heart felt condolences to the Richardson family. She will be missed. - Posted by: Chris van Driel (Friend) on: Jan 13, 2020
