MONTY SCHNEIDER
Monty is survived by his wife of 51 years (and high school sweetheart) Pat (Van Raes); his children, Clayton and Jennifer Schneider, Carolyn and Sean Ward and Jessica and Dave Friesen and his grandchildren, Kadence and Zach Schneider, Madeline and Nolan Ward, Silas (Kennedy), Levi (Medori) and Solomon Friesen. He is also survived by his three sisters, Pat Poole, Joan Todd and Lynn Siemens; as well as many other relatives on both sides of the family.
He was predeceased by his son-in-law Neil McCall and granddaughters, Emryss Schneider and Lucy McCall; as well as other relatives.
Monty was born April 30, 1946 to Bud and Alice in Winnipeg and graduated from Silver Heights Collegiate. His work life was mostly spent working with mainframe computers and ended with a stint of long haul trucking.
Music was a big part of Monty's life and nothing made him happier than being home doing a crossword puzzle with music on, unless it was having a house full of family with a Jets game on.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Maranatha Evangelical Free Church, 910 Sturgeon Road with Reverend Dave Friesen officiating.

Sad news has come to me--two years after--about the loss of Monty, and I found that memories from the late 1960s and Winnipeg came flooding back. I remember Monty as a quiet, modest, good-natured, intelligent, music-loving fellow, already with his beloved Pat and in the early days of his/their life in faith. From the memorial notes posted here, I gather that those impressions were the real thing, that he lived his whole life that way. My condolences to Pat (whom I remember as sweet, strong, lovely) and family, mourning their earthly and too early loss of Monty, but, fortified with many terrific memories, destined to be reunited on a higher plane. - Posted by: Lee Thompson (friend in our teens) on: Jan 09, 2024

My father Terry Hockridge called me today to let me know that Monty had passed. Memories of Monty and his family always bring me back to my youth at Maranatha and to many nights falling asleep in his and Pat's bed waiting for the adults to finish the Aggrivation marathon! So many times my sisters and I would wake up on Sunday morning at the Schneider's house and they would just take us to church because our parents had just left us there because why wake us up and take us home for a few hours when we were all going to the same place in the morning, plus their games had gone on into the wee hours! I loved being at their house as much as being home. Monty and Pat were like my second parents for some years. I will remember Monty as a loving, kind man who always seemed to give off peace. Say Hi to my Mom Kristine up in heaven Monty. - Posted by: Hilary Holmes (family friend) on: Jan 29, 2020

So sad to read of Monte's passing. Haven't crossed paths in many years but spent much of our time together back in the 1960's in our teen years and in our days with the Boy Scouts troop at St. Jude's Church. So many fun times together at Scout Camps and visits to his home in St. James. His parents Bud & Alice always had their door open to welcome all of his friends. Monte's birthday was two days after mine and we often had the fun of celebrating two events. My heartfelt condolences to Pat and all the extended Family. You are all in my thoughts. - Posted by: Bob Patrick (Friend) on: Jan 13, 2020

I went to Maranatha Church with Monty for my entire life and he was a man I looked up to and respected greatly. He was a kindred spirit when it came to crosswords. Every Sunday before the service, we'd talk about the week's puzzles (especially the Saturday New York Times), whether we liked their themes, and the trickiest and most creative clues. I'll never pick up a crossword without thinking of him. It was also always a pleasure to kvetch about the Jets and Bombers with Monty and my dad — the joke was, that together, they looked like Statler and Waldorf. I'm glad he got to to see the Bombers hoist the Grey Cup a few months ago. Monty pretended to be a curmudgeon, but was truly a humble man who put others before himself. His dedication to keeping his backyard pool in tip-top shape so family and friends could use it created a bevy of memories for many, myself included, over the years. The world is poorer for not having Monty in it, but I know he's in heaven, feet up and crossword in hand. - Posted by: Declan Schroeder (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2020
