LUCY HANISCHUK
(nee BOYKO)

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our mother and Baba, Lucy Hanischuk. After a lengthy decline in her health due to Alzheimer's, Lucy passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019. Lucy was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, William (Bill) Hanischuk, and by her parents, Alexander and Annie Boyko.
Lucy will be sadly missed by her daughters, Anne Gordon (Brian), Catherine Morris (Clarence), Connie Hanischuk, and Angela Hanischuk (Ron Steinke); her grandchildren, Kaleigh-Anne, Kurtis, Avery and William; her great-grandchildren, Merrick, Kincaid, Makyis, and Elody; her stepgrandchildren, Kevin and Kim (Dale); and her great-stepgrandchildren, Jacob, Renée, Oliver, Andrew, Miles, and Zlata, as well as a number of other relatives and friends.
Lucy was born on October 11, 1933. She was an only child but grew up close in distance and heart to her cousins, Christine (Wabick), Ruth (Blahey), and Gordie Fedorchuk.
Lucy grew up in Silver, but attended school in Arborg and Winnipeg. She married William in October, 1954.
Lucy was a stay at home mom until "her girls" were grown-up. She then worked at The Bay. Lucy upgraded her education at Red River College and gained employment at Gibson Labels where she remained until her retirement. Lucy loved to sew and enjoyed travelling with Bill until Alzheimer's made leaving home difficult.
The funeral service for Lucy will be held on Friday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

  • Lucy was the first staff member that joined the company. Whenever we discussed employee performance, Lucy was the Gold Standard. We shared the same cultural background and Lucy and Bill became friends. We enjoyed dinners along with perogy making parties. May her memory be Eternal.
