KEVIN JAMES MANDZUIK

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son Kevin on his birthday, January 7, 2020, after complications from Lymphedema.
He will be forever missed by his mother Elaine; his father Jim; sister Terri; nephew Devon; many uncles, aunts and friends.
Kevin was born in Winnipeg but lived most of his life in the country, most recently in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood (Stony Mountain). He graduated from Stonewall High School and pursued a career in Nursing. He specialized in providing compassion and kindness to his dialysis patients at Seven Oaks Hospital and later at Health Sciences Centre.
Thanks go out to those who tried to help Kevin with his illness; Dr. Venter, Stonewall Home Care, Healthy Strides and Susan Zwarich from the Ortho-Rehab Clinic in Winnipeg.
A celebration of Kevin's life will be held on Wednesday, January 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to Kevin’s family. I met Kevin when I was working on the IV team at HSC and Kevin was still on the Cardiac Unit, A3. We both went on to work in Dialysis at HSC and rural. Kevin has a huge heart and an incredible sense of humour. He always brought a positive energy to his friends, coworkers, and patients. He always made time for people even if he was busy. Rest In Peace Kevin. - Posted by: Jodie (Friend ) on: Apr 01, 2020

  • My prayers to you on this very difficult day and time. Kevin had a heart of gold and was there on a couple of occasions when I needed someone to lean on and he was there.I remember how excited he was to become a nurse and that he would be at Seven Oaks to start his career. This allowed him to come say hi to me at the Canadian Tire and scare me from time to time. Kevin’s favourite was to ask a fellow clerk to send me over to the sleeping bags all the while he hide in the display of hanging sleeping bags and jump out when I got close. He laughed his fool head off every time. Kevin ,You will be greatly missed by your friends and the numerous patients you helped. 🙏❤️ - Posted by: Bonnie Blue (Friend) on: Jan 15, 2020

  • Kevin was a good friend. Always was and always will be. We went to high school together and even did Driver's Ed together. He was my driving partner. We had a lot of fun driving together. One time our driver's instructor took us to Canadian Tire across from Polo Park as he wanted to get some things, so Kevin & I went to Polo Park and looked around and bought sunglasses from San Francisco. I guess we had the keys, so when we came back to the car with our new shades on, our instructor was so relived to see us. He thought he left us locked in the car on a hot day. Not sure why he wouldn't think we could just open the door and get out, but whatever. He took us for coffee and then showed us some of the seeder places in Winnipeg, so we don't wander in there by mistake I guess. Kevin & I thought it was pretty cool to be trolling Higgins and Main area with our instructor as 16 year old country kids. We'd never seen anything like that, just in the movies. I think Kevin even said that. Kevin was always part of our super close friend crowd that would skip school once in awhile or go out on a weekend and to Echo Beach on a hot spring day. On my Christmas break from university, Kevin, Amy, Warner, Darci and myself headed out to La Riviere to do some down hill skiing which we always loved to o and would go out often in grade 11 and 12 on weekends in the winter. That was an amazing day with good friends who I missed while away in university in Brandon. He had this piece of junk Volkswagen Beetle we would cruise in, but the floor was falling out and he had a piece of wood to replace the floor. Things would fall out of the car from floor and you had to make sure you didn't either when you were in the backseat. Most of the time Kevin & I would be in the front seats, but for fun once in a while you wanted to ride in the backseat to see what would fall out. He was a great guy and a super good friend. He stored my convertible roadster for me in the winter in his garage and didn't want to charge me, but I insisted he did, so he charged me a dollar. What a guy!! And he always shared my photography work on his Facebook page and showed it off for me. Kevin you will be missed my friend. You are an amazing person, one of the kindest and funniest people I ever knew. God bless you Kevin. Thanks for the great memories and your friendship. - Posted by: Chris Jensen (Friend) on: Jan 14, 2020

  • So sorry to hear of Kevin's passing, he is at peace, take care Elaine and Jim - Posted by: Rosemarie Cook (friend) on: Jan 12, 2020

  • Sad to see this notice in the WFP. I ran into Kevin in November, and we had an honest conversation about life, work, stress, and being able to find happiness wherever you can. I only knew Kevin for a short period of time, while working at HSC. Kevin was a great support to me. He was an ally for those who were marginalized and bullied, and always lent an ear when it was needed most. Kevin helped me get through a period in my life that was difficult, and I'm thankful for that. Rest in peace Kevin. - Posted by: Cameron (Co-worker) on: Jan 11, 2020
