MARIAN KOWAL
She is survived by her sisters, Jenny Carter (Edward) and Lily Stearns (Brent); her nephews, Chris Carter and James Carter (Leah) and her cousin, Walter Fedunchuk in Toronto.
Marian embraced life. She was sociable, curious and enjoyed meeting people. She liked country music (Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash). Ukrainian music as well. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family. A dry martini or a glass of red wine (maybe two) were a must before dining. She supported the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and was a huge fan of the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Christmas was always a special time for Marian and we are so glad she was able to spend her last Christmas at home with us.
After she graduated from St. John's Tech, her first job was with Canada Credit Reporter. Then she began her longtime career with Air Canada where she remained until retirement. She formed many friendships during her working days. As an Air Canada staff member she was able to visit many foreign countries, Cuba being a favourite destination.
On Marian's behalf, the family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care she received from medical personnel and their support staff in the hospitals to which she was admitted. Regular home care visits were much appreciated during her "at home" times. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and therapists at the intensive care units of various acute care hospitals. The care Marian received while a patient was remarkable.
A celebration of Marian's life will be held in spring when the edges of our grief are less sharp.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
"Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." Kahlil Gibran, "The Prophet"
We rejoice that our beloved Marian is now free to sing and dance.
