PATRICIA ANNE MOREAU
(nee MCELWAIN)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Patricia Anne Moreau on January 24, 2020, at the age of 87, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, after a brief battle with cancer.
Pat (or "Nan" to much of her family) will always be happily remembered and sadly missed by friends and family alike. Patricia is survived by her sister Evelyn; son Eugene (Leanne); grandson Patrick (Hilary) and son-in-law Guy (Monique). She was predeceased by husband Gordon; daughter Barbara (Robert) and parents, Archibald and Dorothy.
Patricia grew up in Fort Rouge where she attended Lord Roberts School with her sister Evelyn. The family spent summers at Grand Beach at their cottage on Point Road, where she developed a love of Grand Beach that would last for decades.
Patricia worked as a clerk at Ashdown Warehouse and later as a civil servant with the Manitoba Government, where she met her future husband, Gordon. After marrying, Patricia devoted her life to family - her proudest achievement - before later taking on an Office Assistant position with the Winnipeg School Division until her retirement.
As an adult, Patricia returned to Grand Beach, with cottages on 3rd Avenue and later nearby Bear Paw Estates, where she loved to spend summers with her family and friends, picking and feasting on wild blueberries.
Patricia was a lifelong card shark. Whether it was all-night card marathons, her cherished weekly bridge games or pizza and poker with the family, she would always seem to come away on top.
Later in life, Patricia developed a passion for genealogy, spending countless hours combing through records, looking for clues to find family members to add to the tree. This dedicated pursuit took her on trips to places like Salt Lake City, Florida, the Maritimes, Ireland and Scotland to meet newly discovered relatives, do research, and wander through historic sites looking for connections to the past. Patricia could easily recount the details of family history from centuries ago without missing a beat, a skill she retained until her passing.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests making memorial contributions to the Manitoba Genealogical Society http://mbgenealogy.com/donations/ in her name.
A reception to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
