BARRY ERNEST EVASON
Barry was born to Amy and Frank Evason in Dauphin, MB on November 14, 1944. He is survived by his wife Eva; his children, Derek (Corinne), Tracy (Fred), Brett (Leslie); and his grandchildren, Logan, Conner, Haley, Erik, and Kenzie. He also leaves to mourn his passing his brothers, Ken (Barb) and Cliff (Pat), as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barry was predeceased by his mother and father; brothers, Al and Ron; and his sister Gail.
As a young man, Barry travelled to Thompson where he worked at Inco for a brief time, then, went to work for Safeway where he remained for 27 years. He met his wife Eva there, and was married in 1967.
Barry enjoyed meeting people, and was a very sociable person. He was also a great sports enthusiast participating in hockey, baseball, golf, curling, and fishing throughout his life. Later in life, Barry eased into retirement working at Petro Foods, Pappy's Bar and Grill, and Lockport Grocery.
Throughout all his years, Barry's greatest joy and comfort was his family. His children and grandchildren brought him endless joy. With family and friends, he enjoyed many sociable fun-loving events, generally enjoying life to its fullest.
A service will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Avenue in Selkirk, MB.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.

I got to know Barry when he worked at Lockport Grocery while I worked the A&W next door about 23 years ago. During breaks I’d sometimes go to the store for snacks or they’d phone in a takeout order and I’d deliver it. He always greeted me with a warm smile and a chuckle. I always stayed for a few minutes of chat. Such a great guy! Our relationship was nothing more than that but over than 20 years later those moments I still remember fondly. It doesn’t take much to be friendly to others but it sure can leave an impression on others. That is a lesson I learned from Barry. Barry and his wife Eva were our neighbours for a few years now and both of them were so good to our daughter Adrianna. Barry was a great man and we will miss his smile and warmth around here.
