ELLY (EDITH) MACHEL
Elly was born in Whitemouth, Manitoba on April 21, 1931, the daughter of Hertha (nee Kohle) and Samuel Gesell.
She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Machel, of 49 years, who passed away on October 8, 2003, and son Ronald Machel. Elly was the third child of a family of six children. She was predeceased by her parents, and two sisters, Irma Antaya and Hildagard Maron. Gary and Alfred Gesell and Linda Penner are her remaining siblings.
Elly and Alfred have two remaining children, Pamela Hawranik (Gerald) and Wilson Machel (Anna). Elly had a close relationship with her two granddaughters, Melanie Hawranik-Sobering (Steve) and Marcie Hawranik-Loewen (Craig). The girls enjoyed many sleepovers at their grandmother's home and grew up eating home-baked cakes, cookies, and many other delicious goodies. Elly was a contented great-grandmother who loved to play with her great-grandchildren and spoil them with treats. She leaves Liam Sobering (age 12 years) and Callie Sobering (age 10 years), and Bennett Loewen (5 years old) and Hudson Loewen (2 years old) with sadness.
Elly (Edith) will be remembered for her extensive volunteerism in Whitemouth and Beausejour as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, Gospel Jam organizer and many other charitable activities. She will always be remembered for her enviable talent for delicious baking for any possible event and fun-loving, high-energy personality.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Beausejour, Manitoba. Interment will follow at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed toward the Beausejour and Area Food Bank.
