I just learned of Robert's death and am so saddened to hear of our loss. We both belonged to TABLE OF FIVE poetry site. I always admired and respected his comments on our writings—so much so that I called him "Sir Robert." It somehow seemed fitting to him with his astute contributions. I was thinking of him just last night and wondering why I haven't seen him, on site, in a while. I will miss him as I know so many others do. My sincere and deep condolences to all of his family and loved ones. - Posted by: Sue Baumgardner (Poet friend) on: Oct 12, 2020

My deepest condolences to the Hayes family. I have so many fond childhood memories of spending time at 31 Mercury Bay with Rob and our friends. Also trips to the inter lake. Always a happy place to play as a child. Bob was always happy to show his latest work on his trains which he machined in his basement workshop. Many great times in the playhouse that Bob had built and of course large backyard. - Posted by: Scott Cairns (Neighborhood Friend) on: Feb 05, 2020

I grew up on Crescent drive and fondly remember going to the Hayes. I remember Mrs. Hayes always hosting us and hanging out the laundry. Due to a family health situation in the fall of 2019 my mother-in-law's roommate was Mr. Hayes. In conversation we found out our earlier connection and he was able to share some memories and things that as a kid I didn't know such as his career at the city. He was a soft spoken gentleman and I enjoyed this short reconnection. May sincere condolences. - Posted by: Melanie Schade ( new brownscombe) (Neighbour) on: Feb 05, 2020

Sorry to learn of Bob's passing. I was pleased to work with Bob as well as his City Clerk's staff for a number of years. During my first term as Council Speaker Bob always provided the best professional advice and guidance to me...in his very quiet and unobtrusive way and it was always appreciated. My sincere condolences to Bob's family in their time of loss and sorrow. - Posted by: Jae Eadie (former City Councillor) on: Feb 05, 2020

As a boy growing up on Crescent Drive, Mr. Hayes was a kids best friend. For the short period of time they lived on our street, we had the benefit of an electric rig/ car that Mr. Hayes built that we marveled at . Gary and I went up and down the sidewalk in it. The entire family was young , warm and exceptionally enjoyable neighbours. My condolences to Mrs. Hayes and family . - Posted by: richard brownscombe (neighbour) on: Feb 05, 2020
