FRITZ PAUL PEUKERT
October 14, 1927 - February 6, 2020

The family of Fritz Peukert are sad to announce that on February 6, 2020, he passed away after a lengthy stay in hospital / long term care.
Fritz is survived by his wife Annemarie, his daughter Petra (Tim), his grandson Blair (Sam), his granddaughter Sasha (Ted); and his great-grandchildren, Eli, Lila, Sophie and William. Fritz was predeceased by his parents, his twin brother Rudi and his special cousin Walter.
Fritz was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1927. Fritz and his twin, Rudi were the only children born to Paul and Frieda Peukert. Fritz was extremely underweight at birth, and he was not expected to survive his first day on Earth; he surprised everyone by not only surviving, but also thriving until the ripe old age of 92. After the Second World War, Fritz settled in Bremen, Germany, where he met his wife, Annemarie at a dance. The couple had a whirlwind romance, and they were married on New Year's Eve, 1955. The couple was joined by their only daughter, Petra in 1956. In 1960, the family embarked on an adventure of a lifetime, and they moved to Canada. The family initially moved to Winnipeg, where Fritz and Annemarie had family ties. Ultimately, the family moved to Selkirk, Manitoba. After years of working for other people, Fritz decided that the time had come to be his own boss, and in 1969, he and his cousin, Heinz opened Interlake Patternworks, Ltd. Fritz and Heinz built a successful business together, providing wooden patterns to various industries. After his retirement, Fritz and Anne enjoyed many holidays; Hawaii was a favourite, as were their adventures across Canada in their trailer. Fritz was also a member of the Schuzen Club at Little Britain and served as the club's king for a one-year term.
Fritz will be remembered for many things. Fritz was a hard worker, who completed every task with precision and he expected the same from those around him. While Fritz worked hard, he also played hard, and he was not afraid to try new things. Fritz loved to paint, tend to his yard and in addition to making wooden patterns; Fritz was also an accomplished cabinet and furniture maker. Fritz loved his family dearly, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren at the cottage in Hillside Beach and celebrating important events with his great-grandchildren. Fritz also had very close relationships to his cousins in Canada; as they spent time together celebrating birthdays, holidays, and got together regularly for cards and coffee. Fritz had an infectious smile, and a playful nature, which will be missed by those who knew him best.
A celebration of Fritz's life will be held on February 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, located at 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba. A private family interment will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
The family would like to thank the staff at Betel Home Foundation and the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for caring for Fritz during his final months.
