SIDNEY ERNEST LEVERICK
November 9, 1928 - February 4, 2020
He is survived by his wife, Doreen; sons Mike (Pam) and Dave (Lesley); and daughter Jane; along with his grandchildren.
Sid was born in Southwark, London. He loved London and spent many hours exploring the city with his father. He served in the R.A.F in the Middle East after the war. Sid had many stories of his life in England. He was proud to be an Englishman.
The family immigrated to Canada in 1967, first to Edmonton, then moving to Winnipeg shortly after. Sid was a chef for most of his working life and spoke of many of the meals prepared and served with pride. Sid enjoyed family times and, in particular, spending time with his three children, introducing them to his love of nature. Birding was a great joy for him and many hours were spent out to catch sightings of them, maintaining an impressive life list. Owls in particular were a favourite, and he thrilled at finding a nest in the spring and monitoring the progress of the owlets. He also enjoyed night sky viewing, gardening, poetry, painting and swimming. House Church played an important role for him and he appreciated the dear friends he made there.
Sincere thanks to Rose Walk at Miseracordia Place for their excellent care of Sid over the last six plus years.
Dad felt very fortunate at the way life treated him, with the ups compensating for some of the downs.
A family gathering is planned. No flowers please. If wishing to make donations, Sid wanted them to go to The Salvation Army or the Sunshine Fund to send a kid to camp.
