WILLIAM BILL (WIM) TIMMERS
July 19, 1930 – February 21, 2020

The family is sad to announce that Wim passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2020 with his daughters, Kathleen Mireault and Marcy Lester by his side.
Wim will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Crystal Dow (Kyle), Nick Smith (Chantal), Jennie Lester, Jason Lester (Katie) and great-grandchildren, Sky-Lynne (Sebastian), Katherine, Tanner and great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Hanny Bohn (Han), Ko Timmers (Ank), Cees Timmers (Tinie) and Trudy Hensdra (Thomas); sister-in-law Carine Timmers (Piet) and brother-in-law Simon Perez (Willie) and numerous cousins in The Netherlands and Canada. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 38 years, Aggie in 2011; his daughter Darlene Guenther in 2017; his parents, Jacobus and Cornelia; brother Piet and sister Willie.
Wim was a hardworking, generous man who always made time to visit with family, friends and neighbours. His loves were trucks, cars, his meticulously manicured yard and wrestling to name just a few. He was a professional truck driver, notably working for Kleysens and Labatt Brewery, eventually owning his own company, affectionately known as "The Flying Dutchman."
Wim grew up in The Netherlands during the war and courageously left his large close-knit family and immigrated by himself to Canada in 1957. Dad taught himself english and worked on farms with both the land and animals and of course drove everything that had wheels.
In the spring of 1973, he attended a singles dance where he met Aggie. It was love at first sight and they married later that year. It takes a special man to open his heart to a widow and her three daughters. He loved being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a beloved member of the Belisle and Lester families.
In the early years, Dad and Mom enjoyed going to the Dutch and Belgium Clubs, socializing and dancing all night long. They loved travelling locally in RV's, trailered at Idlwlyse Campground and later a cabin in Winnipeg Beach. They often travelled to Europe and the Caribbean. They were quite the social butterflies.
In later years, Dad could be found, daily, at the mall having coffee with his cherished friends. Anywhere you went with Dad, he always knew someone and he would chat up a storm. Mother really loved that ha-ha.
Dad was always in gratitude, with a generous spirit always there to freely give a helping hand, which his neighbours have paid back in spades. He lived a good life and may our memories help to fill the void.
Viewing will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. also in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
The family is grateful to all who helped Dad in the recent months.
A gift of your time or a monetary donation can be made to a charity of your choice in Dad's honour.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • It was brutally cold on this day a mere 2 years ago when Dad passed. A day I remember well. I cannot wrap my head around the time with all that has gone on and not gone on. My heart is extra heavy on this day. Missing you Dad. With Love ❤️ Your Daughter, Marcy. - Posted by: Marcy Lester (Daughter ) on: Feb 21, 2022

  • My heartfelt condolences to my dearest friend Marcy and her family. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you say goodbye to a wonderful man. Soar with the angels Mr T. - Posted by: Linda Hutchison (Family friend) on: Mar 01, 2020

  • "Bill", as we always called him, was our neighbor for 19 years and we were blessed to have such a wonderful friend and neighbor. Bill was always ready with a smile and a story and was there with a helping hand or some advice which was always appreciated. There were many winters where we would see Bill snowblowing our front sidewalks and hauling his snowblower across snow packed Day Street in -40 weather to continue with many other surrounding neighbors simply because he had such a generous and giving spirit. We always let him know how much we appreciated this especially when our kids were babies and kept us so busy inside the house. We nominated him a few years back for the Transcona Hi Neighbor "Best Neighbor Award" which he rightfully won because he was such an inspiration to so many! We were so happy to share that special day with him. He was a very caring man and we will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace Bill and say hi to Aggie for us all! - Posted by: Glenn & Carrie McLaughlin (Neighbors) on: Feb 29, 2020
