SHANNON LEIGH GOEBEL
(nee JOHNSON)
September 5, 1951 - February 28, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shannon Goebel on February 28, 2020. Shannon passed away after a brief battle with cancer at Riverview Health Centre.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Serena Goebel; brother, Alan Johnson; sisters, Laurel Johnson and Lisa Ryall. She also leaves to mourn many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, Serena's father Donald, and her beloved dog Chrissy.
Shannon was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Eleanor Johnson; brother, Solli; and many other family members.
Shannon was born in Riverton, MB, where she grew up and left at a young age to start her life in Winnipeg, where she worked and resided for the rest of her life. Shan was a warm and loving mother to her daughter, Serena, who was her everything. They lived life as best friends, enjoying each other's company, travelling to many destinations including twice to Iceland, the land of her ancestors. She was the creative and handy-woman in the family, often doing home improvement in her leisure. Shan had a beautiful smile, and great love for her family. If anyone was in need, she was always there for them. She will be forever missed and her memory forever cherished.
Thank you to the Manitoba Palliative team, doctors and staff at Riverview Health Centre for their excellent care and compassion they gave Mom in her final days. Special thank you to Aunties Thelma, Lisa and Laurie for their help and support in caring for Mom in her final days.
A private family Celebration of Life and interment has taken place.
Donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, in her memory.

but live in thankfulness that she was"

  • I am in total shock to see this obituary. Shan and I lost contact over the years but there were many times when I thought I really must try to get in touch with her. She rented an apartment and lived across the hall from me and we connected as friends immediately. She was an amazing person and I cherish all the time we spent together having coffee or just a good conversation. My prayers and thoughts are with you Serena. May she rest in peace. Wish now I had made contact years ago. - Posted by: Marilyn Lennox (Friend ) on: Mar 07, 2020
