ROMEO LUCIEN THERRIEN
Romeo will be lovingly remembered by his wife Anita, son Robert (Judy) Therrien, daughter Elaine Therrien (Ira Minor), son Guy (Kim) Therrien, daughter Mariane (Mark) Riding, 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren with another expected in July. He was predeceased by his daughter Janine Therrien.
Romeo was the third oldest of 16 children and will be sadly missed by his surviving sisters, Constance Belanger, Denyse Kuindersma, Marie Conklin and Lorette Therrien, brothers, Lawrence (Leone) and Remi, and in-laws, Annette Morrison, Dolly (Dan) Cole, Harvey Gamache and Irene Gamache, as well and many nieces and nephews.
After a few years in Sudbury, Ontario, Romeo and Anita moved back to Manitoba in 1958 and made the St. Andrews and Selkirk area their home. Golfing was their passion and a summer pastime that they both enjoyed. Romeo and Anita were members at Selkirk Golf Course and the Mars Sandhills Golf Course where they made many friends over the years.
Romeo worked at the Gerdau Manitoba Steel Mill for 29 years and was a member of the Steelworkers Union. Romeo was also a Second World War Veteran and a member of the Selkirk Legion. You may have seen him on the Legion members float in the 2017 Selkirk parade.
Romeo was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enthusiastic hockey and baseball armchair coach. He was a wonderful storyteller and he enjoyed sharing the family's history and his many life experiences with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
According to his wishes, Romeo will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

There are so many good memories, it's hard to pick just a few. I remember him bringing steel ballbearings home from the steel mill for us to play marbles with. Eating marmalade on toast while he told us a story of when he was a boy. He was the strongest, gentlest man that I've ever known and I will miss him with all my heart. - Posted by: Danielle Clement (Grand daughter) on: Mar 12, 2020
