KATHERINE BODNER

Katherine Bodner was called to heaven on November 12, 2019.
Born July 15, 1956, to John and Cecile Laird, Kathy, to all who knew her, was a kind and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Kathy was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba along with three brothers and two sisters. She was the baby girl, adored by her siblings growing up in a small family home.
Later, she married Ron Bodner on June 24, 1978 and were blessed with a daughter, Jenine. She often joked one was enough when having her, when in reality Jenine was the joy of her world, spending hours reading books together and watching Disney movies.
Her family moved to Baker Lake, Northwest Territories (now Nunavut) in the late 1980s and where she found her forever home. Kathy began as a stay at home mom but quickly grew a name for herself becoming the community's cake decorator, baking hundreds of cakes for many special occasions. She was also a taxi driver and then accounts payable and receivable clerk with BLCS before ending her working career with Qulliq Energy Corporation.
Always a strict rule follower, but showed her wild side whenever she could, tearing up dance floors for hours on end, especially when a Bon Jovi song was rocking. She loved watching curling and Days of Our Lives.
Most of all Kathy was kind. She never complained and always looked on the bright side. Her famous quote was "oh well, that's okay" to which she truly applied to life.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Cecile; brothers, Jim and Frank; and brother-in-law Dennis.
She is survived by husband Ron, daughter Jenine (Guy); sisters, Liz (Dave) and Jacqui; brother Steve (Gerri); and sister-in-law Ina; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of Dr. Banerji's team at CancerCare and Dr. Gabalawy's Rheumatology team for the years of wonderful care. We are truly appreciative for all your efforts.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. in the lasting Memorial Chapel of Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Another service to be held later in the week in her home of Baker Lake, Nunavut.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Jenine, Ron, I am very sorry to read that Kathy passed away in November. I enjoyed working with her at Nunavut Power. I found that her observations about life in Baker Lake were both entertaining and helpful as I adjusted to living in the north for the years I was there. My sincere condolences. • Kathy was a dear childhood friend my bf, I went to St Charles School then to Hedges with her. We lost touch after I had moved to Charleswood grade 9. We spent a lot of time hanging out snowmobiling, listening to Michael Jackson (Jackson Five) lip sinking to all their songs! Kathy had a kind soul such a sweet person, never judgemental a great listener. I used to call her (Pokey) Onto another adventure dear Kathy. Sincere condolences to her Family. - Posted by: Susan Reyher(Manary) (Friend) on: Mar 23, 2020

  • Kathy was such a great friend. I can’t even begin to count the number of pots of coffee we drank together on Saturday mornings when I lived in Baker. I will always have great memories of her kind and fun-loving nature! My sincere sympathy to Ron, Jenine, and Kathy’s entire family. - Posted by: Theresa Mooney (Friend ) on: Mar 15, 2020

  • Very, very sad for your loss. I am so glad and fortunate to have been able to spend some time with Kathy and Jacqui a few years back. We were friends since childhood, but became closer in our teen years. When I was babysitting she was the one I called while kids were sleeping, to help pass the time. We went to many socials together and I was honoured to be her maid of honor at her and Ron's wedding. She was to be mine as well but once I moved to Calgary we lost touch and I tried to locate her but had no luck...so when we finally met again she chastised me for not reciprocating. She truly was a fun, loving person. We also went to Hawaii together with another friend of hers and had such fun, that it seems like it was yesterday. I loved her like a sister, she truly was a loving person and a true friend. I will miss her. - Posted by: Merle Lee (Friend) on: Mar 14, 2020
