Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Sandra, David, Diane, Sydney, Tim and family, I've known Vic since childhood and have many memories of days gone by. One of my very earliest memories is playing with "Timmy" at Harju's in Pointe du Bois. Tim likely doesn't remember those times because we were so young. My maternal grandparents and parents were friends with Vic since his arrival to Winnipeg. I remember meeting Sandra for the first time; she would often visit my mother when we lived on Claremont Avenue. Sandra and Vic lived on Lyndale Drive at that time and it was easy to tell they were in love. Sandra was so interested in preparing Finnish food for Vic and often recipes were exchanged. A baby shower was held at our home and when David was born I became his babysitter. When Vic would drive me home he always asked how much Sandra paid me for the evening...then he would slip me a few extra dollars which was more than appreciated. At the time you only got .50 per hour for babysitting, a dollar for every hour after midnight. Oddly, decades later, I looked after Joey the cat, when Sandra and Vic travelled to Finland. For certain almost everyone of the Finnish community in Winnipeg had dentures or partial plates made by Vic, my maternal grandparents and parents included. Vic was a master of his trade. Over the decades Sandra and Vic attended many Finnish-Canadian Club sponsored events such as the Sunday brunches and Pikku Joulu and you would often see them at the Scandinavian Centre Christmas Market socializing with friends. Please accept my heartfelt condolences, June - Posted by: June (Repo) Wiebe (family friend) on: Apr 08, 2020
