NELLIE FUSHTEY
(nee YANKO)

It is with great sadness that the family of Nellie Fushtey announce her passing on March 6, 2020, a week after celebrating her 95th birthday.
Nellie will be lovingly missed by her children, Ken (Audrey), Don and Carol. Nellie will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Tamara (Bryce), Lindsay, Kelly and Casey; as well as her six great-grandchildren. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Bill; son Dennis; son-in-law Gary and daughter-in-law Debbie.
Nellie was born in Kelliher, SK, to Fred and Mary Yanko (nee Batt). She married Bill in 1946 and settled in Winnipeg, where they raised their four children and was a lifelong resident of St. James.
After working in the retail field, she retired and enjoyed travelling with Bill. Her hobbies included baking, knitting, crocheting and word puzzles. She was also a Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan and was thrilled when they won the Grey Cup this past season.
One of Nellie's biggest delights in her life were her two grandsons, Kelly and Casey. She would find a way of bringing them into every conversation. If you knew Nellie, then you knew about her love for her grandsons.
After suffering a stroke, she became involved in the Prime Program at Deer Lodge, where she made many friends.
A very special thank you to Tenise at the Prime Program and all her other caregivers who were wonderful with Mom.
Immediate cremation has taken place with interment in the spring.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to Carol and the grandsons who I loved hearing Nellie tell me stories about. When I left Deer Lodge I heard thru the grapevine, what am I going to do without her was told to a co-worker of mine. I just loved your mom, what a wonderful wonderful woman she was. - Posted by: Sandra (Deer lodge hairdresser ) on: Mar 14, 2020
