ALBERT BOLLENBACH
July 21, 1926 - March 12, 2020

We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Albert Bollenbach on March 12, 2020.
Albert was predeceased by his first wife Alfie in 1981; his brothers, Oscar, Manuel, Johnny, Jack, Ted and Norman; and one sister Linda.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Helen, son Ken, grandson Chris, granddaughter Kathy (Ross) and great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Trevor, as well as extended family members.
Albert was born in Winnipeg on July 21, 1926. He met Alfie in the Argyle area and they married in 1948. Their only son, Ken, was born in 1949. Albert and his wife farmed in the Argyle area for a couple of years, but when their farm burned down, they moved to Winnipeg. Albert then held several jobs, working for CN Railroad, Winnipeg Transit, Carling Brewery and Canada Wire & Cable.
In 1957, the family moved to Marchand, MB where they owned and operated the Marchand Hotel. It was a men's only parlor until 1962. Once mixed drinking was allowed, Albert remodelled the facility to appeal to all patrons. During their time in Marchand, Albert also served as Councillor for the municipality of La Broquerie for six years.
In 1966, they sold the hotel and moved back to Winnipeg, where Albert was a relief manager for several rural hotels. He then decided to manage hotels only in Winnipeg. He started at the Aberdeen Hotel which was on Carlton Street at the time. He moved to the Voyageur Inn on Pembina Highway and eventually to the Imperial Veterans Legion in downtown Winnipeg. He retired from there, after 16 years, in 1991. Albert was well liked by his many employees, and hundreds of friends.
Albert had a difficult time when he lost his wife Alfie to cancer in 1981. He then met his second wife Helen, and they married in September 1982.
Albert was a longtime member of the Masons, which he joined in 1969. He joined the Khartum Shriners for Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario in 1973, belonging to the Drum and Bugle Marching Band. He will be remembered for his accordion and piano playing. He travelled extensively throughout Manitoba and the Mid-Western United States playing at various events. Albert was elected president of the Drum and Bugle Corp in 1987. He was a lifetime member of both the Mason and the Shriners having served over 30 years in both.
A private interment will take place. Memorial service information will be announced at the later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in remembrance of Albert.

  • Hi Helen, I’m not sure if you remember me? We worked together at MTS in the mid ‘80’s. We were bill collectors. You taught me so much about a lot of things back then. Thank you! Deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved Albert. Oh, how I remember all the love you shared together. You would light right up with the mention of Albert’s name. A depth of love that is so incredibly rare. May God bless you and your family. Lean hard onto Him, for He will give you the comfort and peace you seek. Albert is now being held in the loving arms of Jesus. And there’s no better place to be. Sincerely, Lynda Masyoluk - Posted by: Lynda Masyoluk (Former MTS co-worker of Helen’s ) on: Mar 28, 2020

  • My deepest condolences to you and Albert's family. It has been a long time since we last saw each other. We last met at Donnie Fowler's funeral many years ago, who Albert knew. He was a very nice man, and I remember when you got engaged and was wearing a beautiful diamond ring at work, when you worked at SOW at MTS. You were so thrilled. I am so glad you both found each other, and was able to spend all this quality time together. Take care my long time friend, Tammy Niziol (Dupuis). - Posted by: Tammy Dupuis (Niziol) (co-worker in SOW at MTS ) on: Mar 22, 2020
