JOYCE N. PIERCE
(nee MCDONALD)
We all recognized her as being one of a kind and we have amazing memories of a loving, caring, spunky, sassy, humorous, witty lady, otherwise known as G. Her great-grandchildren, Sloane, Leo, Walker, Lucas and another great-granddaughter to be born in April will hear stories of their Great-Gma for years to come.
Her first husband John passed in 1987 and her son Gregg died tragically in a plane crash in 1993. Joyce was predeceased by her parents and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
She was the first of five daughters born 87 years ago to George and Lena McDonald in Brandon, Manitoba. She is survived by her sisters, Gladys, Shirley, Myrtle and Carol, and many nieces and nephews.
She was married to John Pierce in 1952. They moved to Kenora and then returned to Winnipeg to raise their three children, Glenda, Shelley and Gregg.
Joyce was a stenographer after graduating from Daniel McIntyre. She then became a travel agent at O'Brien Travel. Throughout her life she was an active volunteer in charity, and numerous organizations in the community and church.
Joyce met Wilf Wowchuk and they were together for 34 years until his death one year ago. Joyce was diagnosed with Parkinson's 27 years ago and she always remained positive and concerned for others not herself. She moved to West Park Manor seven years ago to receive the care she needed.
On Tuesday, March 17, a small family burial took place, but in true Joyce fashion, we will be holding a Celebration of Life sometime in the future. Gregg's urn was placed in Joyce's casket and is now buried next to Wilf and her parents.
We want to thank the staff at West Park Manor for the care she received. We appreciated the compassion staff showed to Joyce and her family in her final days. Special thanks go to her companions, Felina and Rushie who made her days brighter.
Donations may be made to Parkinson Canada.

So saddened to hear of the passing of Joyce...a long time froendcof my mother Olga Malowanchuk. They were friends until dementia and Parkinson took both of their livelihoods away. Mom and Joyce were long term friends who enjoyed a get together at Red Lobster with family. We are sorry to hear of her passing. Olga passed August 12, 2019. I hope they met up in Heaven and are getting reacquainted again. Love to Shelly and Glenda. Just found out today of her passing. Please let us know of service. - Posted by: Brenda tesch (Friend) on: Jul 18, 2020

Was shocked and saddened to hear of Joyce's passing. I met Joyce through visits with my Uncle Wilfred. I remember her as a loving spirit, love of her family and grandchildren, her many accomplishments, kindness to others and laughter. We always had such a lovely time together. Sincere thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Carol Faubert (Niece of Wilfred Wowchuk) on: Apr 12, 2020

Your mother, grandma will truly be missed. She really was one of a kind. I’m so grateful to have known her. I saw her earlier this year and she was happy to see me as I was to see her. She leaves behind many memories. My deepest sympathy to you all. - Posted by: Donna Inkster (Neighbor and friend) on: Mar 21, 2020
