WAYNE ARTHUR SHIELDS
Wayne was born March 26, 1946, in Winnipeg. He grew up in St. Vital and was an alumni of the first graduating class from Dakota Collegiate in 1964. In 1968 he graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science (Math and Physics). One of the "original IT guys", he worked on computer systems at Richardson Securities and Autopac in Winnipeg, and as of 1980, Gulf Oil, Calgary. He continued his preference to live near the mountains by heading to Denver, Colorado in 1996 to work as a Data Base Administrator at First Data Corporation. Following retirement, he returned to Winnipeg in May, 2018.
Wayne enjoyed sports, particularly hockey and football, and supported his favourite teams - the Montreal Canadiens, Blue Bombers, Denver Broncos and the Winnipeg Jets. A quiet, private individual, he enjoyed reading, photography, and technology of any sort. He regularly drove the long distance back to Winnipeg to visit, and attend family gatherings both in the city and the country. As a confirmed bachelor, he never turned down any invitation for a home cooked meal. He loved cars and constantly researched which vehicle he should upgrade to next, often choosing one in his favourite colour, red.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents, James and Ethel Shields. He is survived by his sister Valerie Dunsmore, niece Erin, her husband Bryan and their children, Brooklyn and Jameson.
We thank those who welcomed Wayne into their homes over the years and assisted with his difficult move back to Winnipeg, particularly Bryan, Colleen and Don. We are also appreciative of the excellent care he received at Brightwater Senior Living.
Donations may be made to the Movement Disorder Clinic, c/o Deer Lodge Centre Foundation.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
