Marie passed away peacefully in her sleep February 28, 2020, at the age of 95 years.
Mourning her loss are her children, Diana Surbey, Wendy (Dave) Tomchuk, Danny (Debbie) Edwards and Jerry Surbey. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Marie is survived by her dear sister Beatrice Player; brother-in-law Lawrence (Anne) Edwards; sisters-in-law Lorraine Meredith, Irene Heggie; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Marie was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Tom Edwards and her grandson Jason Surbey. Also waiting to greet her on the other side are her parents, Diana and Pierre Picard; two brothers, Al and Romeo Picard and sisters, Alice Lessard, Bernadette Lafrance, Rita Barchet and Evelyn Mireckie. Oh what a party that will be! Tune up the guitars aunt Mary and David Picard!
Mom spent her working years in the food services industry. She and Dad owned and operated several restaurants over the years. She was tall of stature and known for always being well put together with hair done, make-up on, nails painted and jewellery (oh the jewellery) in place. She loved music, dancing, singing and gatherings that included same. Given to singing bits and pieces of old favourites to staff and visitors alike, she treated Wendy and Debbie to a few bars of "show me the way to go home" the evening she passed. She was a fun-loving, kind and gentle lady who will be sorely missed by many.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Vista Park Lodge. You made Mom's last weeks as comfortable as possible. Thanks to the home care workers and nurses who made it possible to stay in her home for as long as she did, and to Drs. Tadrous and Henry. God bless you all.
Sadly, we have to cancel the service planned March 31 due to the current health crisis. There will be a private family interment in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Crohn's foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My condolences to the family, especially Diana. We were childhood friends when we were students at Christ The King School. I have fabulous memories of our fun times - especially our mischief when not at school. Right now I'm especially recalling countless hours at Marie's Restaurant on St. Mary's Road. I remember your Mom as a tall, dark-haired beauty who was always welcoming of your friends and incredibly generous with the french fries! - Posted by: Barbara Murphy (long-ago family friend) on: Apr 02, 2020
