DALE HOPPS
Dale will be remembered by his partner Brenda Miller, sons, Sean (Yvonne), Steven (Tania), and Bryan (Melissa), siblings, Jerry (Sophie) and Shirley (Bert) Skogan, his
in-laws, Doreen Butz and family of SK,
former wife Susan (Stosh), stepdaughters, Carrie and Robyn (Mike), grandson Gerald, niece Ingrid, and nephews, Eric (Tina) and Douglas (Monika). He is predeceased by his loving parents, Gerald and Ada.
Dale attended Fort Richmond Collegiate, and followed that with obtaining an
Electronic Technologist diploma from Red River College. This led to a long career
working at Burroughs, Unisys, Convergys, Honeywell, and Erlphase, where he developed many lifelong friendships.
We will never forget his sense of humour, compassion, generosity, and love of family. Dale loved spending his time watching his sons play basketball, going on fishing trips, watching movies, camping, and embracing time with the ones he loved. His generosity led him to many years of volunteering with St. Amant and Meals on Wheels. He took
advantage of every minute he could spend helping others and continued to work and
volunteer until he was no longer able. His love of volunteering was recognized when he was awarded the 2017 Volunteer of the Year at St. Amant. For several years, Dale walked the survivor lap at the Relay for Life in hopes of a cure so that one day others would not have to.
Dale and his family would like to thank the amazing talents of his health care team,
including Dr. Smith, Dr. Tan, Dr. Paul, Dr. West, Dr. Beshara and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, the Buhler Cancer Centre (Victoria Hospital), Health Sciences Centre, Grace Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital, Markham Shopper's Drug Mart, and the WRHA Palliative Care program for their care and compassion.
A private interment and celebration of
Dale's life will also be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, where updates will be available.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, CancerCare Manitoba, or the St. Amant Foundation in
Dale's name.

Even though I have lived in B.C. for the last 38 years, I have great high school memories of Dale. He was a true friend to all that knew him, and always the social butterfly. I will always remember Dale's sparkling blue eyes, his smile and his blue convertible. I wish comfort to Dale's extended family, knowing that his suffering is over. Rest in Peace Dale. - Posted by: Lori Frantz (friend) on: Apr 01, 2020

After High School, I had little to do with Dale, but remember him from my FRC days as a quiet and shy sort of guy who never caused me any grief, and never participated with those who did. He was fair and stood up for the underdog. Reading about his life, I can see he blossomed into a fine man who did good in the world. I offer my condolences to those who were fortunate to love and be loved by this man. - Posted by: Lori Vogt (friend) on: Mar 30, 2020

Dale was a man to know for life. Once he knew you, your life was part of his. His last number of years were rough, but to talk to him he was a superhero with many lives to live. Some of the old group from Fort Richmond Collegiate tried to meet regularly for a drink, a bite to eat, and to remember. He loved to attend and share memories. Those gatherings will continue on, especially with him in our hearts. Keep smiling buddy - Posted by: Randy Clark (Longtime friend from school) on: Mar 28, 2020

Dale and I met at a local restaurant that newly opened called Bonanza. We both worked together on the same shift and he used to tease me by pulling my apron strings when I walked by and laughed. Then one day we were closing, hardly any staff were left, he leaned into me and kissed me and asked me to be his girlfriend. I was overwhelmed! First boyfriend in highschool. First kiss, our lessons didn't go too far. I remember his blue Chevy chevelle convertible, oh how he loved that car! We used to drive around for hours mostly laughing, great conversations. Dale made an impact throughout my entire life and will continue to do so. I miss you my friend, sending you that last hug I didn't get to give you. I will love you always. - Posted by: Salima Baksh (Friend ) on: Mar 28, 2020
