HELEN PLETT
(nee REDEKOP)
She was born November 28, 1941, in Mexico to William and Helen Redekop. Her father and mother were farmers originally from Ukraine. They moved to Mexico, then to Manitoba in the mid 1940s.
After graduating high school in Niverville, MB, Helen began working in Winnipeg where she met her husband, Wesley Plett. After various moves, they settled in Kola, MB to raise their family.
Helen loved her large yard and took pride in her flowers, fruit trees and vegetable gardens. She had a green thumb and used her skills to ensure the family had home-grown fruits and vegetables year-round. An excellent cook and baker, her meals were substantial and delicious with the smell of home-made desserts, buns and bread often filling the house.
Her time centered around caring for her family, instilling the value of hard work, the importance of education and the enjoyment found in music and books. When resting, you would usually find her reading or challenging herself to a game of scrabble. In her later years, she enjoyed travelling, going to plays, hosting family dinners, and especially spending time with her granddaughters.
Helen is survived by her siblings and their spouses, William (Bill) and Roselyn, Henry and Edith, Aaron and Donna, Victor and Diane, Margaret and Dave, Hilda and Stewart, Peter and Darcy, and Linda and Jess, Marge (Jake) and Margaret (David); three children and their spouses, Denise Plett, Randy and Wendy Plett and Tracy and Patrick Douglass; and three granddaughters and their spouses, Karin Douglass, Courtney Jaworski (Kendel) and Sarah Douglass (Branden).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley and her brothers, Jake and David Redekop.
Helen was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface General Hospital palliative care unit for their care and compassion and kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Helen was a part of our theater, dinner club and events around Winnipeg circle of friends. She had the most beautiful smile and was a very supportive, kind and encouraging person that made you feel so loved. Her eyes would twinkle when she found something said funny even though we may have crossed her comfort zone of appropriate behavior. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. - Posted by: Janine Lambert (friend) on: Apr 04, 2020

Our deepest sympathies to the Plett family. It is so hard to lose a mother and grandmother. She was such a nice lady. Especially hard when the world is in a pandemic and you can't hold each other for comfort. My prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Margurite Thiessen (Friend of the family) on: Apr 04, 2020
