ALAN PATERSON
Al, as he was known to many, was the middle child of Pearl and Bert Paterson; a brother to Robert (Dolores) and Jean (Boris) and an uncle to Karen (Jamal), Jo-Anne and Rob. He was a great-uncle to Joseph, Devon, Melissa, McKenzie and Nathan and a brother-in-law to Trudy. He held a special place in his heart for the Kaneski family of Lynda, Lou; their sons, Rory, Kevin and Brent; as well as their sons' wives, Brenda, Lisa and Bobbi; and their children, Alyssa, Kent, Brooke, Kelsey, Emily, Matthew, Tristan, Nicole and William; and their one grandchild Levon, and for Joan Harrison (Don).
Portage la Prairie was Al's birthplace. When he was nine years old, his family moved to the "big city" of Winnipeg where many new experiences were explored. During his high school days, Al was known to be a terrific football player and, as a testament to his ability, he was awarded a scholarship to the University of North Dakota. In addition, he also enjoyed track and field and, at that time, was considered to be an inspiring competitor in this field.
Al worked in the hydraulic hose and fittings industry for the majority of his career and was very well respected for both his expertise and his integrity. He was a dedicated professional who took great pride in his work. He retired from Allquip Industrial Supply as the Operations Manager.
He felt like the luckiest man in the world each time he ventured out to the cabin in Ponemah. He was a golf enthusiast and most often you could find him at the Sandy Hook Golf Course enjoying a round of golf with Ray, Mike and Rory.
Al was a humble man, and he will be remembered for his gentle nature, his kindness and caring deeply for those he loved. He had a brave face throughout his cancer journey. He never complained and was a trooper right to the end. We will cherish the time we had together.
To family and friends, you lifted Al's spirit by your visits, phone calls, messages and prayers. He very much appreciated each and every one of them and we thank you for you love and encouragement. Special thanks to our Palliative Care nurse, Kjia, for providing us with specialized care and comfort.
Cremation has taken place. Thank you to all of you who have reached out to offer your condolences, it too is very much appreciated.
The hardest part of losing Al is not only saying goodbye, but also learning to live without him. Rest peacefully, Poops, until we meet again.
Nothing but memories as we journey on,
Longing for a smile from a loved one gone.
No one knows the depths of our deep regret,
We will remember and never forget.

I was saddened to learn of Alan's passing. My family lived next door. I had such admiration of this "cool cat"; handsome, football star and owner of the cutest blue and white Nash Rambler. Alan was always very patient with me, the annoying kid next door. May your memories and those of others comfort you at this very difficult time. - Posted by: Nancy Morgan ( nee Johnston) (Neighbour on Minnegaffe Street) on: Apr 14, 2020

Great guy! Good friend! Have good memory’s of our youth and the times we spent playing ping pong in his basement, pool at Boss’s Pool Hall, trips to the beach in summer and our road trip to California in 1960. Condolences to his family. - Posted by: John turesky (Friend) on: Apr 07, 2020

My condolences to Carol and the rest of Al's family and friends. I first met Al in the late 80's when I had just started at Standard Aero and I needed to find some Aeroquip fittings, at that time I had no idea what they were. My search took me to Indequip where I met Al, Puddy, Woody and Jacques. Al patiently educated me in the world of JIC fittings through our 25 year association. He was always smiling and willing to help me with my quest to locate some obscure fittings. When Al moved to Anderson CP Rubber/ Goodall and then finally to Alquip, I followed him. He was truly a believer in Customer Service. There were times when I would see him daily and often more than once in a day. When time allowed we would chat about things more important than adapters, usually football, golf and the cottage! He was a true gentleman and will be missed! So long Al and thanks for being you! Again my condolences to Carol and Al's family and friends. Ian Robertson - Posted by: Ian Robertson (customer) on: Apr 06, 2020

Carol I am so sorry to read of the death of Alan your best friend and husband. It really hit me when I saw Alan's name, wife Carol and sister-in-law Trudy. I knew it was you. I know we have not seen each other for many years but I feel so bad for you and your family. I never knew that Alan was fighting his own battles. Carol I feel so bad for you. Auntie Carol, you and Uncle Al were always fixtures at every sporting event my kids ever competed in - countless football games, volleyball tournaments, soccer games (indoor and out). I can't tell you how sad we are. He will be missed but never forgotten. - Posted by: Brent Kaneski ("nephew") on: Apr 04, 2020
