JANET MAY BOWLES
(nee GRAY)
March 19, 1921 - April 5, 2020

Mom passed away peacefully, on Sunday, April 5, 2020, following a short illness at Grace Hospital.
Janet was born in Kirkconnel, Scotland to Archibald and Mary Gray. The family then emigrated when she was a small girl to
Alameda, Saskatchewan before moving to Winnipeg.
She was predeceased by her parents,
husband Howard, brother Archie Gray, sister Helen and her husband Douglas Rodway, and her niece Robin Gabb.
Janet is survived by her children, Bruce (Marilyn) and Sheila, grandchildren, Brad (Jenn), Bob, James, Matthew (Michelle) and Molly, niece Ellen Heselgrave (Barry),
sister-in-law Helen Gray, nephew Lorne (Louise) and niece Nancy (Brian).
Janet was the first woman to work at the Meteorological office based at Stevenson Field (James A. Richardson Airport). During the war she helped her sister Helen raise her infant daughter Ellen. Shortly after the war ended Janet married Flt. Lt. Dr. Howard E. Bowles.
Starting in 1949, Janet and most of the
extended family and close friends built the cabin on Star Lake which became a focal point for the family.
Canoeing and swimming were Janet's
favourite activities and she was an avid
writer during her lifetime.
Janet had a presence about her and was
always the go to support person in her circle of friends when anyone was in need.
Mom and dad loved to travel and saw a lot of the world together, even taking the kids along to Europe, Great Britain and Mexico.
Janet was an active member in P.E.O. and was past President of the Manitoba Provincial Chapter and of her own Chapter H. Her
sisters in P.E.O will miss her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Hospital 4N for all they did to keep mom comfortable during her last days and the staff at Thorvaldson Care Center for
taking care of her needs while she was there.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation. Their website is: gracehospitalfoundation.ca
Janet's Celebration of Life will be at an
unknown future date to the COVID crisis. Those interested in attending may leave their names at janetscelebration99@gmail.com We will advise you of the date and location when we know them.

Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
