DAVID PETER WIEBE
May 3, 1945 - April 9, 2020

After a lengthy illness, David passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital, with his family by his side.
David (aka Doft, Pin, Gramps) leaves to mourn his loving wife of 45 years, Betty-Ann (Plantje), his daughter Marnie Saunderson (Gerald Krosney), his grandchildren, Dylan (Phoenix), Nick (Rebecca), Raisa and Alex (Alyssa). Also mourning his passing are his brothers, John (Eileen) and Jim (Linda), sisters, Kim (Wayne), Marlene and June (Marc), sister-in-law Barb (Gary), brother-in-law Bill (Jackie), and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many special friends both near and far.
David was predeceased by his parents, David and Susana, siblings, Suzanne, Anne, Marge, Kathi, Lynn, Abe, Dick and Ben.
David was born into a large family, raised in Steinbach, MB and moved to Winnipeg after high school. David had many jobs in his lifetime including Winnipeg Motors, Brooke Bond Foods, several courier companies, EXL Transportation, to name a few, and happily retired in 2008. Since retirement he proudly bragged that "every day is a Saturday" and was happy to spend time with his wife and family.
David was an incredibly happy man who was never without a smile, a "grandpa joke" or a kind word. There was never a child that wasn't immediately drawn to his gentle nature, a fact that made him very proud. David also never shied away from a good time; often enjoying a cigar and a fine Scotch or Innis & Gunn beer and some good music with his buddies. His family and friends will miss his one-of-a-kind sense of humour that either got a laugh or a groan, but he didn't care. Of all of his wonderful traits, what will be missed the most is that he was an amazing father, a caring grandfather and the best husband on the planet.
Special thanks to David's Friday morning coffee pal Jeff and his Tuesday morning breakfast buddy Jim for their dedicated friendship with David.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's memory to the Manitoba Lung Association, Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice.

"I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles
when life is done."

A private family interment has taken place. If and when possible, a service will be held to honour David.
At David's request, a future party to celebrate his life will be held when the current state of the world returns to normal.

  • I have nothing but good memories of Doft. He always smiled and joked around. I remember having to go to work in the a.m. and him standing there and pretending to yawn, making me do so also. Thinking I got away from him, heard a knock on the door window, I turned around to see his face with a big smile and another fake yawn. Of course I yawned as well and he was so pleased with himself. He was the first in the family to hold our daughter, when she was 6 mos. old when he came to visit us in Greenwood N.S. where my husband was stationed with the Canadian Armed Forces. When we were sent to Wpg. for a years course, he lived with us during this time as he had just returned from working in Thompson. He worked for a plastering co. and would come home totally white. Our children just loved him as he would always give them attention. He was always happy, joked and played with them. We spent a couple of weeks three years ago camping with son and family and had brought our 2 granddaughters from Ottawa. The kids fell in love with him all over again. We had such a great time with them. whenever Doft's name was mentioned before that summer, it was "you mean funny Uncle Doft?" He and Bettyann had visited us in Barrie and then them in Ottawa not long before this so they knew him well and very fond memories. I could go on about him and his great qualities. I just want to say he was the bestest brother and I loved him dearly. He will be very much missed. Thanks for the memories With love from your kid sister June - Posted by: june fournier (wiebe) (sister) on: Apr 18, 2020
